BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND FINALLY

It was a beautiful weekend.  Sunny and clear and cool.  A bit cold in the house though, it was 51 degrees inside when we got there.  On Saturday it was windy...and the wind chill was making things a bit on the cool side.

Texas sky
Today it was almost perfect.  Still blue skies and sunshine and after about three weeks of not seeing that, it was a nice, and much welcome, change.

Orange leaves and blue sky
This tree though, still thinks it's Fall I guess.  We've had mornings of frost but still, its leaves are holding on strong and they are a vibrant and pretty orange.  Against the blue sky, it was like a beautiful postcard image.

Crawfish mound
The only downside of these weeks of rainy days was that the ground was super saturated.  I mean like walking on a muddy sponge saturated.  Above is a crawfish mound.  They had popped up everywhere that water was or had been standing.  All the wet ground meant I didn't get much yard work done...

Green grass in Winter
...and as you can see above, the yard is confused too.  Things are greening up and in some places, actually growing like Spring!  Now I"m sure we will have some pretty serious freezes in February, we always do, but it looks like Spring might perhaps be here quicker this year.

We were able to get some things done around the house, cleaned up something things, organized some more and best of all, we made our "to do" list.  All the things we want to do this year at the farm.

We'll share all that in the coming days.

All in all, it was a nice and productive weekend...finally!

  1. Crawfish = dinner. Have you ever eaten or cooked crawfish?

When a tree has leaves on for this long, the tree is dead. Too bad. I hope it was not a tree you cherished. Don't let it fall on your head.

    1. Yes, love crawfish! I don't think the tree is dead, it was just in bloom with white flowers (I think it's an ornamental pear) a few weeks ago. I think our weird weather is confusing the plants. Heck the grass is still growing, ha. We'll see. It's a huge tree and showed no signs of distress last year so fingers crossed. Stay tuned! :-)

    1. I know, we were saying at work how it's been a good three weeks (down these parts anyway) since we had a sunny, nice day. It was welcome.

Crawfish mounds are odd. Kind of disconcerting at first.

Don't get me started on fire ants, ha.

  5. I've never heard of a crawfish mount.....on dry land....well soggy dry land. Are you near a river?

    1. not near a river (well, miles away, if that's near, ha, but no running water through the property). I think it's how much wet we've had. There are some low parts of the yard and driveway sides and that's where they were. Standing water for the last couple of weeks and I guess the crawfish are happy, ha.

    1. I don't think it is, it was perfectly healthy. It needs some pruning on the lower part (can't see it in the picture) but it's pretty. It was even blooming with little white flowers about a month ago. I think our weather is just screwy, ha.

  7. It was such a beautiful weekend! Sure was great to see the sun.
Some of that green grass looks like rye grass - it likes cool temperatures. I dug up some and put it into pots for my indoor cats to munch on - they love it.
Sounds like you got a lot done on this gorgeous weekend.

    1. OH! Great idea about the rye, Brisbane is our resident grass eater. I might try that. Thanks!!

We did get some stuff done and of course 'made the list', ha.

  9. It looks gorgeous! We are still looking at lots of white snow here. At least it's pretty. That is, until it melts and the brown grass and muddy ground are revealed.
