GOTTA LOVE FARM EGGS

We used up the last of the farm fresh eggs that 2nd Family gave us recently.  We needed six and only had five...

Fresh farm eggs vs store bought
Of course we still had 'regular' store bought eggs in the fridge so we cracked one into the measuring cup.  WHAT THE HECK?

Amazing difference...

It's funny, I showed this picture to one of our dear friends and she said it has kind of creeped her out toward buying eggs at the store, LOL.  Chickens are on our someday list of course, so for now, we can enjoy the fresh eggs provided by 2nd Family's ladies at the other end of the driveway.

  1. They are even better/healthier for you. Only drawback, when you bake something white like cheesecake, cookies and cake. I do it anyway.

    1. Definitely. I never thought though about the white things. I'll have to mention that to 2nd Man. I'll still take a cheesecake made with farm eggs though, even if off white, ha.

  2. fresh farm eggs have yolks that are way more orange-y than store bought ones that come from who knows where. we are lucky in that the stores that we shop at carry farm fresh eggs from farms less than 20miles from here. and you guys are lucky to be able to get fresh eggs from 2nd family's ladies! i love making poached eggs with fresh eggs - that gorgeous bright orange runny yolk spilling all over your toast - deevine!

much love always to both of you! your friend,
    kymber

    1. LOL! I understand, I work with a lady who just hates eggs in any form. :-)

  4. The store bought ones are just older. They don't taste near as good, but the paler yolk won't hurt you any.

    1. Yep, so right. I just tell people they are like store bought tomatoes vs fresh from the vine. ;-)

  6. 1st Man,

You can actually taste the difference when eating fresh eggs compared to store bought eggs.
I get my eggs from a local farmer or the farmers market, and every time there in the refrigerator, my son eats them like he can't get enough. He always says to me, "Mom these are so good.....can you get more". That's because he eats them all up before we can have any.

    1. LOL! I totally could relate to your son. I love eggs in any way and the farm eggs make each of those that much better. :-)

  7. Farm fresh brown eggs have stronger shells and brighter yolks and just plain taste better.

  8. Our chickens roam all over the place and their egg yolks are bright orange. Grass and other greens are the reason. Store bought eggs come from tortured chickens that live in a foot square cage where they cannot even spread their wings. Organic free range eggs come from chickens that have a little better life, but not much in a large commercial setting. It doesn't take much to have a couple of hens around. For just the 2 of us, 3 hens give us plenty of eggs.

    1. We don't have to buy a lot of store eggs, but when we do we try to get the organic free range ones just because they have a bit better life.

We want eggs at the farm but since we aren't out there mostly during the week, only weekends, I don't think we can have them now. But when we do, we were thinking 3 or so would give us plenty. Sigh...can't wait!!

  9. Fresh eggs is like almost everything else. It tastes soooooo much better, and is better for you. When did we decide that adding chemicals to everything was a good idea?

  10. The colour of a chickens egg comes from what they eat. A chicken that has a corn fed diet, or a healthy varied diet will have an egg with a very orange yolk. If you have farm fresh eggs and want to boil them then leave them out of the fridge for a few days otherwise you will have all manner of trouble peeling those suckers. The way to tell if an egg is very fresh is if the white stays put when you crack it, making the egg look like your traditional UFO. The older the egg gets, the runnier the white. Our chickens free range as well as having pellets but we still will get a variation in yolk colour (and shell colour for that matter - white, brown, speckled).

    1. Oh my gosh, thanks for the tip. We hardboiled some of the eggs once and tore them to pieces trying to peel them. Thanks for the info!!

They are still worth it no matter how much work, ha.

  13. Why does the store egg look so different? What's been done to it?

    1. It's 100% the diet...greens and natural plants and bugs etc vs just pre-made chicken feed, probably made of corn or something, ha. They won't hurt you, it's just like the difference between bland store tomatoes and delicious fresh from the garden ones.

  14. I usually buy Goldrich eggs; they have that fabulous orange yolk and taste so much better.. But where I live, I can only get them at one store, Walmart :( So I suck it up, put on my best pajamas, and go to Walmart (kidding). Yesterday I sent our daughter to the store to get eggs, she went to a different' store and got regular eggs.. I felt sort of weird about cooking them.. Like somehow they weren't 'proper' eggs.. LOL..

  15. Store bought eggs don't look like eggs, taste like eggs or smell like eggs. They also are not as nutritious. They are just the pale watered down version of real, free range eggs. Free range chickens are out there eating their leafy green veggies and bugs and putting all those wonderful colors and vitamins and minerals into their egg yolks. No comparison

  16. Oh, the color difference is so remarkable isn't it. When my son was small, some 30 years ago, I was able to get farm eggs. He loved them for breakfast and would not eat the "store bought" eggs. He stated they tasted like cardboard. Go figure... M

    1. Cardboard, ha. Out of the mouths of babes, right? Hey, at least he will always remember that for the rest of his life as he eats eggs, ha.
