2nd Man was feeling "bakey" (we say that when he decides to go bake something) and he whipped up a couple loaves of fresh white bread.

So we had some slices with butter...

...and we daydreamed about the farm. This is on our 'someday' list but I just couldn't help going in and doodling up something in a photo editing program to see what it might look like.
Planning the future over a loaf of freshly made homemade bread was a great way to spend a cold and damp afternoon inside!

nothing like fresh baked bread. we go to our first maple festival next weekend and i am going to bake lots of bread for my son to take to the kids at the community center and spread slices with maple cream. it is the best thing ever! love the fence with the barns!

DeleteGreat looking bread. Can I ask how does 2nd man get that lovely rich brown colour all the way around?Mine never look such a universal colour.
ReplyDeleteI will get him to dictate to me so I can reply appropriately. He says it's because of the wilton bread loaf pan, a non stick pan, because of the darker color it absorbs the heat and helps brown them all the way around. His recipe is a standard white bread and it cooks at a regular temp but our oven is a convection oven too so the circulating warm air might be a factor?

DeleteI love fresh baked bread! Today I experimented with baking a sourdough loaf in a cast iron dutch oven, but sadly it was a total bust. Looked and smelled fantastic, but the inside was awful. Trying a different recipe tomorrow...
ReplyDeleteYou know, I don't bake bread myself (though I love to cook) but 2nd Man always tells me it's a practice makes perfect and he's had a fair share of busts too. Keep on keeping on, ha. Let us know how it comes out. And I'm going to see if I can get him to give me some more info on the baking when he does it next time.

Tell the kitchen magician that this quote "he whipped up a couple loaves of fresh white bread." makes people quite jealous. And don't be too smug about it yourself, though you should be.
ReplyDeleteThe fence does jazz up the place, doesn't it? I immediately started to imagine a garden along the edge and contemplated what could go behind it. Chickens? Gardens? A pool? Better stop; it's getting expensive!

DeleteThe fence will look neat, someday. Best bet for that spot will be chickens. And some greenery and flowers along the fence. Baby steps (though the barns were giant leaps ahead, ha).
I love the traditional colors of the barns. I eventually want a long fence made solely out of solar panels. :D Then a fast charge station behind it for an DIY electric Audi build.
