BREAD AND PLANNING

2nd Man was feeling "bakey" (we say that when he decides to go bake something) and he whipped up a couple loaves of fresh white bread.

Homemade bread
So we had some slices with butter...

Barns with possible picket fence (our barns but not an actual fence, ha)
...and we daydreamed about the farm.  This is on our 'someday' list but I just couldn't help going in and doodling up something in a photo editing program to see what it might look like.

Planning the future over a loaf of freshly made homemade bread was a great way to spend a cold and damp afternoon inside!

Hope you are staying warm (or for some of you, cool)!

  2. Your bread looks so tasty! Wish we were having a cold and damp afternoon. But it is 65 here just past noon and I just dashed in for sunscreen! Great look with the two barns and fencing. Enjoy your planning!

  3. Great looking bread. Can I ask how does 2nd man get that lovely rich brown colour all the way around?Mine never look such a universal colour.

    1. I will get him to dictate to me so I can reply appropriately. He says it's because of the wilton bread loaf pan, a non stick pan, because of the darker color it absorbs the heat and helps brown them all the way around. His recipe is a standard white bread and it cooks at a regular temp but our oven is a convection oven too so the circulating warm air might be a factor?

  4. That's beautiful bread. When I bake bread I always think the crust is too thick.

    Love,

    1. Thank you, he will be glad to read that. He's always worrying about the crust and I told him I thought it looked fine to me.

  5. That is beautiful bread! Warm with butter is wonderful. Maybe one day, he can give us a bread lesson. I use a breadmaker and one end looks funky.

    1. I will get him to do that soon. Usually he's making it while I'm out running errands or if I'm at the farm and he's in town to work and so I'm not here to get the step by step, ha.

  6. Your loaves look scrumptious, beautiful colors.
My grandma owned a bakery for 35 years, homemade bread, cakes and pies were her specialty.
I cannot pass a slice or two of warm bread, straight from the oven :)

    1. There is nothing like a warm slice of bread fresh out of the oven is there? Oh how I'd love to have a relative with a bakery, ha. I bet you had some great food growing up. :-)

  8. Fresh baked bread and green onions was our baking day treat. Amazing how well they go together.

For any thing, the dream comes first and you go from there.

    1. Green onions? Really? That's sounds nice. Do you just eat them together, or as a sandwich? I love onions anyway....

Ditto to the dream, right? Thank you!

  9. Mmm, I can smell those beautiful loaves all the way over here! I know it made your house smell and feel so warm and cozy on our chilly, gray day.
I love the white picket fence and Seda Bolsa sign - really sets off those new red barns.

    1. Oh yes, the smell is always amazing huh? And this weather is crappy. Ugh.

We'll do a white fence eventually, probably next year. It really does look good.

  11. I love fresh baked bread! Today I experimented with baking a sourdough loaf in a cast iron dutch oven, but sadly it was a total bust. Looked and smelled fantastic, but the inside was awful. Trying a different recipe tomorrow...

    1. You know, I don't bake bread myself (though I love to cook) but 2nd Man always tells me it's a practice makes perfect and he's had a fair share of busts too. Keep on keeping on, ha. Let us know how it comes out. And I'm going to see if I can get him to give me some more info on the baking when he does it next time.

  16. Tell the kitchen magician that this quote "he whipped up a couple loaves of fresh white bread." makes people quite jealous. And don't be too smug about it yourself, though you should be.

The fence does jazz up the place, doesn't it? I immediately started to imagine a garden along the edge and contemplated what could go behind it. Chickens? Gardens? A pool? Better stop; it's getting expensive!

    1. LOL! I will pass that along. So true...I understand. :-)

The fence will look neat, someday. Best bet for that spot will be chickens. And some greenery and flowers along the fence. Baby steps (though the barns were giant leaps ahead, ha).

  17. I love the traditional colors of the barns. I eventually want a long fence made solely out of solar panels. :D Then a fast charge station behind it for an DIY electric Audi build.
