SEEING DOUBLE AND BEE UPDATE

Twin Calves
One of my best friends, "R", sent us this picture.  This is one of his father's cows at their ranch.  This lovely lady just had twin girls!  What a cute pair of babies they are!  It's definitely Spring, as there are a few new babies at the neighbors' farm next to ours as well.  Love to see the babies of any animal.

Yesterday the bees were fine. I  filled the feeders and took a peak inside.  It all looked good and they were building comb and hopefully the queens are laying eggs and the next generation is being created.

Langstroth Bee Hive
There were bees coming and going at the entrances.  A couple of you left comments here and then I saw on Leigh's blog about how to watch for beeS returning with pollen that they had gathered.  I watched and saw several of them coming in loaded up with pollen so I hope that means good things are happening deep inside the hive.  This weekend I'll be removing the excluder placed on the bottom and putting it between the honey super and the brood box, and then putting the frames in the one super.

More later!

  1. 1st Man,

Now that's a pretty cow and little ones, I love their color.
Your bee's seem to like their new digs, and they're going out working and returning with pollen.

  3. I'm so glad everything to doing well on the farm. The bees look very happy.
When you get ready to take some time off from work for a summer vacation, you should go to Fredericksburg to check out the Wildseed Farm. They have so much besides seeds to sell.

  5. Who doesn't like baby animals; they R adorable.
Tried to think of a couple of names for them babies but couldn't decide so thought I would post the names here.
These are names that are Associated with Nature:
    • Esta -Tara (both meaning “star”)
    • Storm – Salena (meaning “moon”)
    • Meadow – Amaya (meaning “night rain”)
    • Diana- Rishima (Moon Goddess)
    • Celine- Luna (Moon)

    Or more traditional names:
    Twinkie and Cupcake

Buzzy little bees aren't they? Glad they are doing well.

  7. I love calves. They are so cute when they are out frolicking in the fields! What breed are those? I don't recognize the top knot on the mother. Not that I know much about cows!

  8. Has someone shown you how to look for eggs in the cells? As I recall (it has been 40 years) they are shiny and glint in the sun, it is a few days before they are sealed over with wax to pupate. My copy of ABC-XYZ of bee culture is at the other house.
