SMALL STAND TRASH TO TREASURE FIND

Regular readers know that I have a new favorite place to look for bargains...our downstairs trash area!  Our building has trash chutes on every floor and they feed into a separate room, but for boxes and other things that you can't put in the chute, there is an area (indoors) near the loading dock for people to put things they don't want.  I've found several cool items.

And last weekend, before we went to the farm, I stopped to see what I could find and I found this!  It looks to be some sort of child's room stand?  Or Laundry room storage perhaps?

It has these lime green polka dotted pull out baskets.  I know some might like this style but it's not exactly "us", ha.  Fortunately, they were attached to the sliding part with Velcro and so they were easily removable.

I took them out and saved them.  Need to find a friend with sewing skills to make some replacements and we figured it would be easier to keep the old ones as a future pattern.  Maybe using an outdoor type fabric like Sunbrella.

Why outdoor fabric?

White stand between rockers
Because of this!  It's the perfect table for between the rocking chairs, a place for my drink while I'm working outside and taking a break, a place to leave my phone, etc.  I put a dish towel on top to keep off the water damage.

Remember this BLOG POST about the snake on the porch when I reached down to pick up my glass?

Yeah, that won't be a worry now, ha.

  1. Great find.
If you didn't / don't want the fabric, cut a sheet of wood to fit and have wooden shelves in place of.

  3. That is a good find. New baskets would work, but I like Anne's suggestion and have more shelving.

  4. 1st Man,

Great find dear friend!! You may want to put a coat of outdoor paint on this piece of furniture to help it last a bit longer.

    1. That's a very good idea. Even though it was free and as long as it lasts it was a bargain, why not make it last as long as possible!! Thanks!!

  7. Hi from New York! I just started reading your blog and I have a question about your yellow hutch. I love the color and was just wondering what color to paint my hutch, when I saw yours. Would you mind telling me what brand of paint and the shade? It looks so nice and sunshiney. Thank you.
Also, a hint on what to do with tomato skins, or if you end up with more tomatoes than you can use. I blanch and peel tomatoes, or use cherry ones whole, and then squeeze out the excess water, put the peels in a dehydrator and dry them. When dry, I grind them into a powder, put them in a jar, and then can add "intense tomato taste" to a stew or soup or whatever. I'm not sure but they should also be full of vitamins. Just a thought as to what to do with skins and excess cherry tomatoes.

    1. Well first of all, HELLO! And welcome!! Thanks for stopping by. Ah, the yellow hutch, we love the color, that's one reason we bought it but alas, it came that color. Yep, we bought it at a store called Nadeau....they don't have them though in regular stock, they order shipments of furniture from overseas, and they often don't even know what color will come in. We were just lucky to be in there at the right time. I wish I could give a better answer. It's a very rich yellow, a yellow with some orange tones in it if that helps. If you want me to try to get some good closeup pics, just let me know.

And as for the tomato peels, WOW, what a brilliant idea!!! Thank you so much for this. Will have to remember that. We have our dehydrator too! Thank you again and hope you'll come back and visit!

  9. The next snake can just cozy up in the cloth baskets! I would prefer a shelf in the spaces. However, you could still slip a basket onto the shelves. I would not like the cloth baskets on the front porch...don't know why, but...just would not.
