LAST WEEK IN REVIEW

It was a week of highs and lows...but in the end it was all good.

Early in the week it was our anniversary.  19 years.  NINETEEN!!!  That's 19 years together since our first date. And the last 3 of those have been legally married.  We have no idea where that time went.

Of course that means next year is 20.  I think that means we need to do something special, like a special vacation somewhere exciting. We're discussing ideas and options now.

Then a couple days later I ran to lunch at work, stopped at Petsmart to get Hobart some of his favorite food and this happened...

Car break-in
...only inside maybe 5 or 6 minutes, came out and saw a little piece of glass in my drivers seat.  Then I looked across and saw the rear passenger side window busted out.

They rifled through the center compartment, but I don't keep anything valuable in my car.  So they got away with nothing.  I however, was left with a $300 window repair.  We hate criminals.

Hobart saying "color me unimpressed"
We remind Hobart now when we feed him that he better enjoy that food, it's an expensive meal.

He was not impressed, ha!

Mowing
I was looking forward to the weekend for sure.  And my time on the Zen Machine.  I haven't mowed in two weeks (rain) so it was time.  Above is a "during" picture of the front yard, ha.

Freshly mowed
I mowed everything and felt much more accomplished.  If no rain this week, I won't have to mow next weekend and I can edge and then clean up the garden to get it ready for Fall planting.

Speaking of...

Banana spider web
...I went to the garden and we had something watching over it all.  This is what we call a banana spider in these parts, it's a member of the orb weaver family.

Her web wasn't attached to the gate portion so I opened it and ducked under so I wouldn't disturb her.

Banana spider
Of course up close, you might not feel comfortable ducking underneath something that looks like this.

I was going to work in the garden but by then it was 3pm and it was the hottest part of the day.  We're under another heat advisory and they recommend that people stay indoors.  We stayed for awhile doing some things inside but with one window unit, we decided to come back where it's really cool, ha.  So today we are in town just relaxing and decompressing from a busy week.

Oh and some good food cooking in the oven now (beef roast with veggies, details coming this week).

Hope you are having a great weekend!

    1. I know, dang it. But in the end it's fixed and life moves on I suppose. We have always called them Banana spiders, I like those other names.

  2. Happy Anniversary!! Yes, you definitely need to plan something extra special for next year’s 20th.

Your broken car window from an attempted theft - how awful. Does the store have security cameras in the parking lot that might help capture the thief?

The picture of the Garden Spider between the 2 posts reminds me of Charlotte the Spider in “Charlotte’s Web.” I used to read that story to my kindergartners when we were studying spiders and learning how useful they are to gardens.

    Enjoy that delicious-sounding supper!

    1. Yep, we're tossing around ideas now. We have to do something for 20 years, right? I checked and no cameras in that area. Ugh. Charlotte's Web! I loved that story when I was little. I didn't think about her being that kind of garden spider.

      Thank you again!!

  4. Happy Anniversary! What a wonderful accomplishment. In this day and time that is unfortunately rare. So happy for the two of you.

Hobart is beautiful and yep, typical cat........unimpressed with it all. lol,

You can keep that spider, but I would walk way around, not under. lol

Sorry about your window. I hate criminals too. Too lazy to work an earn an honest living. They would rather just steal from other hard working people.

    1. Aww, thank you!! Isn't it funny how cats can be so unimpressed with everything? Ha. And yeah, criminals are just lazy. Good description. Thank you again for the kind wishes!

    Love Hobart (of course).
Sigh on the self-entitled helping themselves (or trying to).

    1. Paris? I like how you think. Hey, 2nd Man, Paris? :-) We're not beach people like a cruise for example, instead of tropical we'd pick Alaska, ha. But Paris is a good choice. And Italy. Of course so much to see here in the US too.

  7. Do you are your car look wealthy? Is it a bad area or were they just desperate? I just think it is good you were not around to get hurt. I hate thieves, too. I just wish I had a car to vandalize...lol. Sorry about the cost involved.

    1. Well, I was just wearing my slacks and a long sleeve plain white shirt. I probably looked like I worked at a restaurant that day, ha. My car is a Jeep, nothing fancy. Here in Houston, you routinely see $100k cars in parking lots so mine wouldn't stand out. I think it was just a crime of convenience. And I was the unlucky one, damn it.

  8. Pretty bold to do a smash and grab in a shopping lot. You'd think that someone would have been there to hear or see.

    2. I know, it was like 2pm, middle of the day. They had to have been in and out in seconds. Who knows they may have moved on to another parking lot.

    3. Oh and thank you much and river cruise? Wow, we JUST saw a commercial on those and had never heard of them before. Thanks for the suggestion.

  10. Congratulations to you both. Wishing you many more years of happiness.

So sorry to hear about your broken window.
Check with all the stores around and see if any of the stores around have cameras that show the parking lot and make a police report.

      May your love grow stronger,
      deeper, and more beautiful
      with every passing year.

    2. I did ask about cameras from both stores in the parking lot but none. They are focused on the back doors and the front but nothing in the parking lot.

What kind words, thank you so much. It means a lot.

  11. Happy Anniversary! There are so many beautiful places in the United States, that I'm not tempted to travel overseas, especially with the condition of the world. We went to Hawaii for our 25th and Alaska for our 50th. I personally prefer Alaska. We flew to Alaska and cruised back down the coast stopping to see and do touristy things. We went in the 3rd week of July and the weather was wonderful; a windbreaker was the heaviest clothes we needed. You've got a year to plan it all and decide where to go. I'm sure it will be wonderful wherever it might be. That spider is gorgeous. There was a orb weaver outside the window yesterday, but it was just brown. That web has an interesting spiral. I love non-poisonous spiders.

    1. You know, we JUST had that conversation with each other. While we would love to see so much of the world, things are always so unstable. And lets face it, not everyone like Americans right now. Hawaii would be a dream trip for sure (hurricanes and volcanos notwithstanding, ha). An Alaska cruise is actually near the top of our list. And so many big things we have never seen in the continental us too. We'll see. Thank you again for the kind words and the advice. Stay tuned, we might need more advice.

  12. Smash & grab thieves are the lowest of the low. They'll create expensive hardships for other people just to *look* to see if there's anything worth taking. (BTW, is that the Petsmart next to Trader Joe's? Yikes.)

About your 20th, I was thinking you two work so hard even in your down time with all the farm chores getting your future retirement house up to speed, you both deserve to be pampered with a cruise. On cruises, you just kick back with bottomless margaritas or whatever while everybody else does all the cooking, cleaning, driving & parking - & worrying about smash & grabbers in port. ;-)

    1. Um, yes, that's the one!!! I take it you're a Houstonian!! I had to look back and the picture and wow, good eye! And yep, all that damage and dram and they didn't get ANYTHING.

A cruise is on our list, but perhaps one to someplace other than tropical resorts. Bottomless margaritas sounds like a great idea. And food. Thank you!!!
