WICKER TRAYS TRASH TO TREASURE

Regular readers know that I have a favorite place to look for bargains...our downstairs trash area!  Our building has trash chutes on every floor and they feed into a separate room, but for boxes and other things that people can't put in the chute, there is an area (indoor) near the loading dock, where people can put the things they don't want.

I've found quite a few cool items so far.
Here are the latest!

I found these the other day.  Someone decided they were ready to be discarded. They are wonderfully sized trays, with a seagrass type of wicker on the outside.

The bottoms are sturdy with a piece of wood to reinforce them.  Nice handle openings on each side and are in great condition.

I'll clean them up of course but was thinking of lining the bottoms with fabric?  Or maybe decoupage and then put a piece of glass over that?

  1. What a great find! I like the idea of doing something with the bottom. Maybe press and dry some flowers from around your Farm, then decoupage them, and cover with glass.

  2. When I read these "find" posts I mentally have a documentary playing with a narrator describing the scene. "First man enters his favorite treasure realm and the hunt begins. He looks furtively to the left and right, spies . . . "

    1. Yep, I've put them in the barn so I can have a place to work on them when the time comes.

  4. Those are awesome! Depending on their size, you might tray a colorful fabric place mat in the bottom.

    1. You know they are about the size of a place mat. Good suggestion, we like that idea too. That would certainly be a quick and easy fix. A mat in the bottom and maybe a sheet of glass over that.

  6. Here in rural Illinois, folks often just put their unwanted items on the curb and then post a "curb alert" on Facebook. Stuff disappears fast! One of our goals this year is to fix up an old feed shed for me to do my recycling repurposing activities. I can't wait. Love those little trays!

    1. I like that idea. Our neighborhood before we sold the house in town and moved to the apartment, had just started using Nextdoor app and people were mentioning putting things outside on the curb. Twice I went to get something and it was gone just 30 minutes after posting, ha. I want have a dedicated space for that kind of stuff too. For now it will be the small barn, we'll see how it goes.
