Normally on Friday, we do a "Friday Food Debate" where we tackle some of the burning questions of the culinary world...but this week we'll expand to another random fun question.
This week, the burning question is:
This topic came up and my office recently. We were all talking about sleeping at night and the topic of the door came up. Some of the people at the office slept with he door shut always, others slept with it open. I had to think about it for a moment. Having a cat (probably a dog too) means you most likely have to leave the door open so as to avoid nighttime and/or morning drama, ha!
So I thought back to when I didn't have a cat and I slept with the bedroom door open. 2nd Man said he always left the door open too, even when he lived alone. Now of course we've always had a pet since we first met and so the door has always been open.
We realize there are pets, kids, maybe roommates or relatives and that can affect decisions as well. But in general, all things considered...
How do you like to sleep? With the bedroom door open or closed?
Since I do live alone and have for a long time, the door is always open. When I had kids, their doors were usually closed, but not not mine.
ReplyDeleteYes, cats and dogs demand open doors ... done that one, too! 😁
Good ?
ReplyDeleteIt all depends here.
When hubby worked nights I slept with the door open but when he is home now in the evenings and I usually go into bed before he does then the door is closed.
Our bedroom is just on the other side of the living room wall so with my bedroom TV on & the living room TV on, I have to shut our door so that I can hear my TV instead of the one he is watching. He watches what he wants to watch and I go to the bedroom and watch what I want to watch.
I usually have the door open, I wanted to hear the children when they were babes. Then I trained the children that if the door was closed they most knock and wait for our okay. (Sometimes my husband worked nights, and he came home around five in the morning.)The same still is the rule, even with the grandchildren. But it is only when there is a visitor in the home, for their privacy.
ReplyDeleteWith 4 big dogs who rotate turns sleeping on the bed with us, our door is always open - except when my hubby and I have - ahem - private time. I haven't had a closed bedroom door since I was a teenager.
ReplyDeleteAlso our house is heated by firewood and though the firebox is in the basement in a forced air system, the bedroom gets way too warm if the door is closed.
We sleep with the door open. We live in a very old house and the furnace is in the hall so to keep warm we have the door open to circulate the warm air and because we have two Bostons. They like to roam the house at night.
ReplyDeleteWe always sleep with the door open, it's round the corner from the bedroom anyway. In our previous house, where we lived for 28 years we had a new master suite addition built on above the two car garage and we built it without a door! The stairs came from the den below and were not connected with the rest of the house.
ReplyDeleteWhen it is just DH and I the door is open. We sleep in our birthday suits and I'm of a certain age where the covers are off and on all night. So when we have company the door is closed tight!!
ReplyDeleteOpen when we have no company visiting, closed when we do!
ReplyDelete98% closed; I like it dark and quiet. only 98% closed in case a cat wants to sleep with me.
ReplyDeleteDoor closed and window open, even in winter with a heated mattress pad and flannel sheets. We installed CatHoles in all the doors so kitties come and go as they want. We like it dark and quiet.
ReplyDeleteClosed when we had cats. Because they were always expected to leave the bedroom (where we all watched TV) and go to their own beds in the livingroom. We'd say "Kitty Bedtime" and we'd go to the kitchen and get a bedtime snack, then humans went back to the bedroom and Kitties went to the livingroom. And no, they didn't always go straight to bed. They'd tear up and gallop around the house. But now that they're gone, the door is back open.
ReplyDeleteDoor open. Kitty likes to come and go.
ReplyDeleteThe door is open always. I read that the door should be closed in case of a fire. I would never close a door when I had children because I needed to hear them. Even with company, I left the door open because I wanted to hear what was going on. No, not in their bedroom.
ReplyDeleteOpen -- Cats
ReplyDeleteAlways open!
ReplyDeleteIf you have a dog, you and the family are that dogs' pack. It will always protect you, even with its' life. Because of this the door should be open to allow the dog to roam freely and investigate unusual sounds. With minor unusual sounds the dog would do a low growl and bark and if a more threatening sound is heard the dogs would bark firmly alerting its' pack!
Another reason for the door always being open is for efficient air conditioning and heating. The air in the bedroom needs to be circulated (fresh in and old out) to maintain even temperatures throughout the house.
Open so the air circulates. Also as I now live alone so I can go in and out easily.
