Regular readers know that I have a favorite place to look for bargains...our downstairs trash area! Our building has trash chutes on every floor and they feed into a separate room, but for boxes and other things that people can't put in the chute, there is an area (indoor) near the loading dock where people can put the things they don't want. I've found quite a few cool items over the last few years...here are a few more:

TRIPLE FIND TRASH TO TREASURE
Saw these items in the recycle area with all the cardboard boxes. I gathered them up and brought them back upstairs.
The first is this glass vase/candle holder. It's a cool retro design, the clear spots are shaved into the heavy glass and it's a large size. The bottom says it is from the store "Anthropologie". No chips or cracks, someone just decided they didn't want it for whatever reason.
Then there were these three glass vases. They are very tall (about 16") and in perfect shape. No chips/cracks. We can always use a vase for something. Or maybe floating candles?
And this was an unexpectedly cool find...inside that small cardboard box was a set of small glass dropper bottles. There are a dozen but one was missing. The rest have never been used as they were still sealed. There are three metal funnels for filling them (also still in their plastic wrappers) and a larger glass pipette. The bottles are small with rubber tops and glass droppers. It looks like maybe someone just used one of them and tossed the whole thing without ever using the rest.
We already have the candle holder in the bathroom (which has the same green in the shower curtain) and the clear vases, well, who can't use some extra flower vases? The set of dropper bottles might come in handy at the farm when I do some things with herbs.
We'll put them all to good use.

Cool finds! I would love to find those dropper bottles.
ReplyDeleteThey are really cool. I almost passed up the box because I thought it was just another empty box. Makes me wonder what might be there that I miss. But I supposed whatever we're meant to have, we'll get, ha.
DeleteYou always find the coolest stuff.
ReplyDeleteHa, thanks. Lucky I guess.
Deleteyou are gong to miss that room when you move to the farm!
ReplyDelete100% ha.
DeleteEvery neighborhood should have a giveaway zone. The dropper bottles are especially nice. They will be great for herbal tinctures some day!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth? I would love a spot where people could just drop off stuff they don't want and then other people could come take it. I think that's a wonderful idea. I was thinking herbal tinctures for sure. Already doing some research on medicinal herb gardens and planning where to put it at the farm.
DeleteUh, looks like you DO have a spot where people just drop off stuff they don't want...
DeleteHa, true, I meant like for a neighborhood or areas of town, that would be awesome for everyone and keep so much out of landfills. Of course, we are lucky at least having this. We always wonder what people just throw in the dumpster and it gets covered up by other stuff. When we get rid of something, we just sit it beside or on a box sitting beside it so someone can see it. We've even printed signs on occasion that say "free to good home!" and sure enough, a couple hours later, whatever we put out is gone, ha.
DeleteMore great finds! That discard room has yielded a lot of treasures. And you saved them from the landfill!
ReplyDeleteYep, and even if we don't think it's something we could use, we text friends to see if they want it, ha.
DeleteI looked up the Anthropology vase ... $38 ... Poshmark: $27
ReplyDeleteYour neighbors do discard some fantastic items!!
Whoa, really? I hadn't even looked it up yet. Wow. Hmm...maybe we should sell it, ha. They do discard good stuff, never sure why, maybe moving and just didn't want to take it with them, who knows. I'm glad we can save some of it.
DeleteThe droppers look like they would be ok to feed baby kittens or other animals.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, there you go, thinking outside the box. That could be something we would need someday. Thanks!!
DeleteYou got more nice treasures once again.
ReplyDeleteYou're going to miss that area once you move to the farmstead.

Have a wonderful weekend
Great ideas in that link, thanks!!! Yes, we'll miss it for sure. Hotter than you know what, stay safe and cool inside!
DeleteCan you keep the key or access button or whatever opens the basement when you do move on so you can come back and check for goodies???
ReplyDeleteHmm, we might could, though I suppose we could get tagged for trespassing if we didn't technically live here, ha. Plus honestly, I have to go down and all random times to find anything good so there wouldn't really be an easy way to check it out like that, ha. Maybe we'll have to find a cool place out there that does something similar, ha.
