HARD FREEZE COMING

 Welp, here we go again...

An arctic blast is heading this way and will be here Sunday morning.  Lows are going to be extreme (for us and for most of Texas).

We're getting into the teens by Tuesday.

Yikes!

We had hoped to not have to deal with this one more Winter (plants and pipes) but here we are.

As this posts, we are headed to the farm to make preparations.  We left the lights up under the house that I put in last year near the pipes so all we need to do is plug them in.  We do have extra bulbs in case any are burned out.  Then, we will bring all our sensitive porch plants into the kitchen (again, like last year) and turn the heaters on in there and in the mudroom to keep the pipes warm and, of course, the plants alive.

Now...let's hope the Texas power grid stands up to the huge demand that will be placed on it...

  1. Yes; cold and windy here and will be getting down into the teens from now - Tuesday evening and not warming up much during the day.
Bound to have nasty weather with the Fort Worth stock show going on which started yesterday.
Everyone stay safe and stay warm.

  2. That is very cold for Texas. We are cold here too. Our library has just posted that all are welcome to come in and get warm. By all they mean the homeless, poorly housed and the elderly who suffer so much in the cold.

  3. Than goodness I'm in a slab built house ,so there's no wind blowing under the floor and the ground should not freeze, so I should stay warmish,, Got steel doors,so the cold will radiate in. Humm.. Maybe wrap the door??

  4. I hope you will not be crawling under the house. That might be too much for you. It is getting into the teens here, too, but not for long. The low 20s is still too cold and colder than usual for her in Alabama.

  5. You let 2nd Man do the crawling under that house and you shouldn't be hauling anything around! You don't need to test what your heart can tolerate!
If anyone freezes, perhaps it will be Abbott and Paxton! Keep coats and blankets handy and whatever source of heat you can manage!
It's freezing up here, too! Marcia LaRue in S. CO

  7. I’m glad you left the preps from last year in place. And that 2nd Man went with you to help and to do the heavier work.
I spent hours yesterday and today covering my vegetable garden, fruit trees, and some big pots with Frost Cloth. Then hauled firewood into the house and onto the patio.
Hoping the power grid holds up.
    Stay warm and safe.

  8. There are light bulbs out now that have a small battery in the base that charges when the light is on. If the electric goes off the blub will burn 6 hours from the small battery that has been charging while the light burns. We are having cold weather here in Florida for us, in the 30"s the next few nights. Tomato fields are planted so hope they can make it. Strawberries are getting ripe, but the farmers will turn on overhead sprinklers and the water will freeze ice over the plants and the plants will not go below 32 degrees.

Everyone; Do stay safe and stay warm. If you don't need to get out, just stay home and off the roads.
