TREE STUMP FLOWERS, INSPIRATION THURSDAY

Every Thursday we like to post a picture of something we've found online that inspires us to do something similar at the farm. Sort of our own blog bulletin board so that we can eventually look back and someday, hopefully anyway, recreate it...enjoy!

Saw these on Pinterest and loved the idea of re-purposing a tree stump into something beautiful.  We never would have thought about making one into a planter of sorts and decorating around the base...

Or just make it directly into a planting container...

Or even the focal point of a garden. I guess it would take some hollowing out of the stump and some potting soil. Of course, over time, I'm sure the stump would decay as the soil and water do what they do best but until then it would be so pretty. We have a few trees we'll have removed at some point and we'd love to do something like this. Great ideas!

Be inspired!

  1. I see these around the neighborhood all the time and it is a beautiful way to gussie up a tree stump and turn it into a vital part of the yard scape. After a recent tree removal and additional 500 bucks for grinding the stump, I understand the economics of why people choose the decorated method until nature takes its course. Plus it is just pretty.

  2. I've seen where people have just plopped the whole plant, pot and all, right into the stump.

  5. Very pretty idea. If you wanted this look in a place where there is not a stump, you could use some of your big tree limbs from your brush pile or a storm-damaged limb to use as planters.

  6. Such a pretty way to add color throughout the yard if a person has the stumps that is.
Great container gardening without having to buy the containers.......and that's a good thing.
