BUTTERFLY FREEDOM, A POEM

Butterfly Freedom  © 2016

"Butterflies are free...

Free to be beautiful, as they
fly on wings of stained glass art...shapes, colors and patterns that deny their caterpillar start.

Free to be lighter than air, as t
hey fly to nature's every blooming flower...seeking only the sustenance to exist for yet another hour.

Free to just be, as t
hey fly silently, fluttering and ever so gentle...moving through the sunlight like something transcendental.

 Yes indeed, butterflies are free."

SEASONS CHANGE, A POEM

I wrote this recently while sitting on the front porch of the farm.  I'm no Whitman or Frost by any means, but I'm hoping that over time, the farm will inspire me, maybe even be my "muse" for honing my writing skills...

Seasons Change © 2015

"Flowers grasp the sunlight as their color starts to fade, an end of season chance to hold off the coming shade...

Petals start to wither and leaves begin to fall, while temps drop ever lower as Winter comes to call...

Warmth of Summer heat and cool of Autumn weather, fade away to memory, drifting like a feather...

As our dreams and plans awaken and slowly start to sing, we once again look forward to the long awaited Spring..."

                                                                                     - 1st Man

Good or bad, I just thought I'd share...

NICE GARDENING QUOTES

I was just surfing the internet and I found these two quotes that I really like, and interestingly, they are both by the same person, garden designer, Gertrude Jekyll:

"There is no spot of ground, however arid, bare or ugly, that cannot be tamed into such a state as may give an impression of beauty and delight"

and

"The love of gardeing is a seed that once sown, never dies."

I have to say that these both are near and dear to my heart.  I want to take all those spots of barren, plain ground, and turn them into something beautiful.  And the seed that was once sown was sown by my Grandparents, on boths sides, when I was very young...and it's only today I can (hopefully) make it come to fruition...

LIVING LIKE YOUR GARDEN

I received a cool email yesterday from a coworker.  She thought I would appreciate not only the message, but the garden theme as well, and I did.

I'm reposting it here, and adding pictures for that garden flair.  It truly does make you think:

FOR THE GARDEN OF YOUR DAILY LIVING,

PLANT THREE ROWS OF PEAS:

1. Peas of mind
 2. Peas of heart

3. Peas of  soul

 PLANT FOUR ROWS OF SQUASH:

1. Squash gossip
   2. Squash indifference
 3. Squash grumbling
  4. Squash selfishness

PLANT FOUR ROWS OF LETTUCE:

1. Lettuce be faithful
2. Lettuce be kind
3. Lettuce be patient
4. Lettuce really love one another

NO GARDEN IS COMPLETE WITHOUT TURNIPS:

 1. Turnip for meetings
2. Turnip for service
3. Turnip to help one another

TO CONCLUDE OUR GARDEN WE MUST HAVE THYME:

1. Thyme for each other
2. Thyme for family
3. Thyme for friends

WATER FREELY WITH PATIENCE AND CULTIVATE WITH LOVE. THERE IS MUCH FRUIT IN YOUR GARDEN AND YOU WILL REAP WHAT YOU SOW...

GARDEN POETRY

________________________________________________

"Chinese Poem/Proverb, 2500 B.C."

When the sun rises, I go to work.

When the sun goes down, I take my rest.

I dig the well from which I drink,

I farm the soil which yields my food,

I share creation, Kings can do no more.

GARDEN POETRY

"May-Flower"
by Emily Dickenson

Pink, small, and punctual,
Aromatic, low,
Covert in April,
Candid in May,

Dear to the moss,
Known by the knoll,
Next to the robin
In every human soul.

Bold little beauty,
Bedecked with thee,
Nature forswears
Antiquity.

"Garden Sanctuary"
by poet Doris M. Palmer

You who walk,
Maybe with troubled thoughts,
Come, enter here and rest;
And may the sweet serenity of growing things,
And the heavenly peace
Be mirrored in thy soul.

"Springtime"
by Poet Velma D. Bates

Oh, spring came to my garden
And caught it unaware
Wearing just a few old leaves
And a dejected air.

But when spring left my garden,
Its work so deftly done,
Many, many Daffodils
Were dancing in the sun.

"Grass"
by Poet Brian Ingalls

Grass is the forgiveness of nature -
her constant benediction.
Forests decay, harvests perish, flowers vanish,
but grass is immortal.

"Who Loves A Garden"
by Poet Louise Seymour Jones

Who loves a garden
Finds within his soul
Life's whole;
He hears the anthem of the soil
While ingrates toil;
And sees beyond his little sphere
The waving fronds of heaven, clear.
