Outdoor Bed photo courtesy of: Southern Living |
Believe it or not, this is one of the first photos I ever saved when we were "thinking" of shopping for land. I saw it and instantly thought WOW!
This doesn't apply to this picture in particular as I don't know its full story, but I read an article once where someone had an old bed frame outside. It was metal. When they had a nice evening, they would put an air mattress that matched the size of the frame and use it for naps or sleeping outside. This picture reminds me of that story.
I'm not 100% sure about sleeping outside in the open ALL night, but this might be fun for some stargazing in the evening. I'm certain however that it would be fun for an afternoon nap in the shade. Beats the heck out of a hammock!
Is it silly? Sure. Is it practical? Probably not. Is it fun to dream about possibilities like this? Absolutely!!
Blog day off, see you back here tomorrow! Enjoy your Thursday, the weekend is almost here!
Very funny. A friend of mine from New Zealand told me that his ancient old uncle slept outside every single day. Lived to a ripe old age.
ReplyDeleteNow that's a cool story. I wonder if there might be something to that? Of course, sleeping outside every night would be great and you can live to a ripe old age without snakes and spiders and coyotes ha.
DeleteDew. That's the only problem, evening dew. Figure out how to keep the dew off and still see the stars and you have a plan! I love this idea too. I want to put one of thos hanging/swinging bed/platforms on my covered porch. sigh.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about dew. Yep, that would make for a very damp evening huh? On our LOOONG range farmhouse bucket list is the addition of a screened porch on the back side of the house. We even have a "doorway to nowhere" that would be perfect. Someday, sigh myself. :-)
Deletewhen my kids were small, we used to camp in the back yard. we cooked over the fire pit and slept in sleeping bags. when someone had to use the bathroom, it was just through the back door! much better than going in the woods. i keep looking at yurts and tents to pitch in one of my outdoor rooms. i love the idea.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea. A tent is a great idea to at least get a feel for it. A fire pit is on my short list and I already have the area picked out. There is a great tent area near that too. Great suggestion, thank you.
DeleteWe did it last summer/fall. Stayed outside into November. When it hit 20 degrees at night we finally and reluctantly moved back indoors. Take a look at our outdoor bed - http://tramps-camp.blogspot.com/2011/08/old-sleeping-porch.html
ReplyDeleteJust visited your posting. Holy cow that's awesome! That would be an inspiration to me for sure! Wonderful thanks for sharing. :-)
DeleteI sleep outside 1/2 the year on my screened in porch, but actually in the yard does not appeal to me. The amount of spiders, mosquitos, bugs, snakes, mice, raccoons, skunks.....need I go on, that would take up residence in an outdoor bed with in seconds. I can not keep the porch furniture free of bugs for more than a minute. While the look is very romantic, I imagine that those who have these dont have livestock. The flies love landing on light colored items in the AM and they make for bad bed mates.
ReplyDeleteAlways the voice of reason (and firsthand experience). Yes, so true. I'm thinking an afternoon nap, maybe, overnight? Um, probably not, ha. Now the idea of a screen in porch, definitely in our future. Thank you, as always!! :-)
DeleteWonderful dreamy photo, if it only came without bugs and snakes. But you can bring the outdoors in by adding a glass room, (rather expensive), or open a wall up on a track that the bed slides out door. Seen those too, and all rather expensive. Why not get a hammock where one might star glaze on the occasion.
ReplyDeleteThat would be the ultimate wouldn't it? Sometimes though, simplest is best huh? I need to roam around the property and find a couple of trees that might be "hammock worthy", LOL! Might be an easier start!
