FARM SKY AND WEEKEND PLANS

A view from the porch
Took this picture at the farm last weekend and just loved playing around with the camera settings to create something pretty.  Enjoy!

Off to the farm Saturday...by way of the lumber yard to get the last of the wood for the last of the raised beds.  There is rain in our forecast for "Superbowl Sunday", so I may only have Saturday as the window of opportunity for any outdoor work.  Then cold again next week.  Sigh.

Anyone else have big plans?  Whatever you end up doing, we hope you have a wonderful weekend...updates as things warrant.

  1. I would not survive without the rare warm days sprinkled through the winter.

    1. Amen! It's weird when it's cold and warm and cold and warm but dang if it was cold for months on end, I would go crazy, ha. All of you in the North reading this, have my respect, ha.

  2. I put a 7 lb pork shoulder in the crock pot on high. Don't know if it will be done for dinner tonight as the recipe for 3-4 lb ones is 8-10 hours. With bone in it will take longer. Oh well. Put the onions and garlic on the bottom like your recipe.

    1. Yiikes! I hope it comes out. I suppose if it looks like it's not going to finished midday you could toss it in the oven for a couple of hours, ha. Let us know how it works. And I KNOW your house will be smelling good all day long, I love that about crockpots, ha.

    2. It worked! I kept the crock pot on high until after 1 checked the internal temp and it was in the well done category so switched it over to low for 4 more hours. Tender, falling off the bone and super moist. I've divided it up into 4 containers, 3 of which are in the freezer for another day. The rest went back into the crock pot with Sweet Baby Rays' BBQ sauce on warm to heat through for our dinner tonight. Dan thought when he got home that he was smelling lunch. Not so but we did celebrate Chinese New Year with dumplings daughter made at Christmas and some good homemade oriental soup. Yum. Thank you for the prompting to make the pork roast. Never done it bone in before but it worked!

    3. YAY! We're so happy it worked. And hat tip to you, works great in a crock pot for all you readers out there looking for a good way to cook it. We haven't ever tried Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce, I'm not sure if they sell that in our neck of the woods but we'll have to look for it. And we're jealous of the dumplings, we love good dumplings. Thanks again! Stay warm!

  3. I received "Compost" in the mail today. What a nice surprise. Thanks for the opportunity to win. Funny that you are talking crock pots--a blogger friend sent me a huge Crockpot, so I will be listening for Crockpot cooking news from all blogs. That makes two nice things in the mail in 4 days.

I have not been around much because of possible gall bladder pain and problems. I will do better. That's a pretty sky, like the ones we had after the brutal cold here in Alabama.

  4. 1st Man,

Your skies are pretty, and it looks like it was nice and warm for you today.
My plans are to try to stay in the house tonight through Wednesday because were expecting yet another storm. Temperatures have dropped and it's no fun being outside.
I think I'm going to be working on my indoor greenhouse and maybe canning if we have electric.

    1. Well, you got it a day before us (though you get the snow and we don't) but it's been rainy and cold all day today. Indoor greenhouse sounds like fun. For sure, stay warm and safe.
