Garden progress...while we don't have a lot of different plants growing right now, what we do have is growing!

| Tomato raised bed |
Tomato bed. Upon looking at this photo, I realized my spatial orientation when planting that tomato on the right side was a bit off, LOL! I'll have to measure the next time. Anyway, they are growing well and covered in tomatoes. The jalapeƱo in the middle is also doing great.

| Okra raised bed |
These are the two okra plants (and the chive that won't die, ha). The one in the foreground is doing better than the other and has more than doubled in size in a week. The other one has grown too, just not as quickly. I guess that's why it's always good to plant more than one of a plant.

| Herb raised bed |
Here is the herb bed. I harvested herbs last weekend and this is how fast they've grown. The basils and oregano have gone crazy. The smaller one is lemon thyme but it was planted a month after the others so it's catching up.
I didn't get a picture of the eggplants but they are doing much better now and one is covered in blooms.
It's all doing great and a harvest update soon! I also did some other things in the garden, a post on that coming as well.
Your garden looks Wonderful. Looks like them tomato plants are loaded with fruit. Herbs are growing by leaps and bounds and from the looks of it, that area will be totally covered.

ReplyDeleteWell thanks for that. I will have a post about the drip irrigation (or is it soaker hose?) and how we're using it. So far it's working. I think we just have the beds with a good soil in it, and the straw on top is working great as well. Thanks!!!
DeleteYour veg are looking awesome...look at all those tomatoes! Your herb bed looks gorgeous too - mine is a veritable jungle at the moment and could use a bit of a tidy up.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to growing more than one plant, I would go a step further and say it's always good to plant more than one variety as some varieties are more tolerant to certain conditions (i.e. hot, cold, wet, dry, etc). Also it's not unusual to get a bad lot of seeds so it's wise to hedge your bets.

DeleteVery nice! We started small too and learned along the way. Better to have a few wonderful well weeded useful plants then a huge garden full of weeds that can't produce at all. Keep up the good work!!

DeleteLooking good. In the garden my greedy self thinks more is almost always better. Different varieties, and staggered so that the season lasts longer.

DeleteLooks like the eating will be so fresh in a few weeks. You do know that tomatoes need picking every day, sometimes twice a day. I would have planted more in each box. Sometimes, if you plant several varieties they will germinate each other and you will not get true plant. I am not sure which plants do this, however.
ReplyDeleteWe sure hope so! I thought about more in a the box but since we're starting small, we'll see how it goes. We can have 2nd Family pick for us, so that'll be nice. And we don't mind sharing. :-) Thanks for the advice!

ReplyDeleteThe herb garden is beautiful - everything has really taken off.
Okra loves hot weather, so that’s probably the reason for their faster growth now. When it starts to produce, it will need to be picked at least every two days, preferably every day - maybe 2nd Family can do some picking for you during the week.
