No words, other than we say thank you to those who currently serve, have served and of course those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom...
This was Saturday at the farm when we left.
97 degrees.
The weather app had a new icon, a sun with a cactus. We don't know if that means "desert hot" or what, haha, but it was indeed "very hot". More of an update in upcoming posts. I didn't have to mow and this week shows no rain so I might not have to mow this coming weekend either.
I DID get stung by a wasp/wasps.
Three times.
On the back of my leg behind my knee.
I was opening the garden gate as I always do, it has to be pulled a bit because it sticks and I didn't think twice about it until I felt the stings. A wasp nest was on the back of the gate that I couldn't see. Ugh.
But hell hath no fury like a gardener stung...the wasps no longer exist.
It was late in the afternoon and I had done what I needed and with it so hot and my leg sore, it was a good time to call it a day.
Hope you all have had a good weekend.
Ouch. After a couple of days cut down the nest that they built.
ReplyDeleteTo relieve the pain; wash the affected area with warm soap and water. Cleaning the site can remove any bacteria or venom the wasp might have carried. This will also help wash out some of the venom left behind by the wasp.
OR;
Wrap a thin cloth around an ice or cold pack. Apply the pack to the sting site for 30 to 60 minutes, in intervals of 10 minutes on and off. This will help reduce the swelling and pain of the wasp sting.
To relieve the itchiness, which can increase for hours after the initial sting, apply an antihistamine, or a calamine cream to the entire red and swollen area. This will also help alleviate the pain of the wasp sting.
Thanks, I did wash it and put some antibiotic ointment on it. It helps. I will have to make sure we have the cream on hand at the farm for sure.
DeleteMy go-to for wasp/bee/scorpion sting... plain meat tenderizer with just a little water. Sounds crazy ,but it works. I got the hint from Readers Digest long ago
ReplyDeleteYou know, I think I've heard about that before. I will have to look for that and keep it in the pantry, er, medicine cabinet ha. Thanks!
DeleteThe best way you can thank us veterans is the be the kind of citizen and person that is worth the sacrifices that we made. Sadly, there are fewer and fewer of them these days.
ReplyDeleteThank you for that. Thank you for your service and thank you for summing it so nicely. We try to be good citizens always. Thank you again.
DeleteI would recommend that you do NOT remove the nest. That there is prime nest building real estate. If you remove it, they will rebuild. If you leave it they will build somewhere else. In my experience.:D
ReplyDeleteThanks we will remember that. I did leave it up just sprayed from a distance and ran back to the porch ha.
DeleteMemorial Day - May we never forget their sacrifices and examples. And may we all live in a way that honors them.
ReplyDeleteSummer sure came early this year- hot, really hot, and baking hot.
Sorry those yellow jackets got you. Their stings HURT!
they hurt for sure. Thought today/tonight the leg is back to normal. Ugh it is SO hot so soon this year.
DeleteAmen about Memorial Day. Thanks to all who have served and sacrificed.
I try to leave all pollinators alone until they sting me, then all bets are off and they are goners!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the stings
Same here, I've often left them alone because they are just doing their thing and if they aren't bothering us or if they are in the way where there WILL be confrontation then yep, all bets are off here too, ha. Thanks!
DeleteThis Memorial Day, and Everyday we should honor and thank the men and women who fought, serving to protect our freedom. Because of their bravery, sacrifice, and dedication to our country, we are able to live freely as we enjoy time with family and friends. As we remember those who have fallen and given their all, we wish you all a safe Memorial Day, surrounded by loved ones.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great words as always!
DeleteMy husband is a veteran, plus
ReplyDeletemy mom lost her only brother in WWII, so MemorialDay has significant meaning.
As for your wasp… or any stinging insect, you may have the solution under your feet. There’s a “weed” which grows in many places, not sure about TX, but you can pluck a few leaves, chew them a bit, (or mash them with a mortar and pestel) then hold the masticated leaves on the area. You’ll be shocked at how quickly it helps.

OK, I looked it up, and plantain DOES grow inTX. Here’s a neat article about it, including how to make tinctures and salves quite simply. https://txediblelandscapes.com/plantain/

Thank you and your husband and blessings to your Mom as well. I have never heard of this but now I'm going to be checking out the link you sent. With 10 acres, there is bound to be some growing somewhere! We love stuff like this. Thank you again for sharing the info and the link.
