Vintage needlepoint with flowers |
Found this at lunch the other day and one of my favorite thrift stores. I'm guessing it's a table runner of some sort but it was the beautiful needlepoint work that really caught my eye. It was only $5.00!
Needlepoint |
It's got these beautiful roses mixed with other flowers and greenery. The colors are vibrant and it's edged in a metallic thread. The background is a nice yellowish gold color and it's lined on the back with a cream colored fabric.
I knew immediately what room it would go into at the farm, the guest room (which has a flower theme), but I wasn't sure where.

So when we went out, we had to decide. We thought about hanging it on the wall but there wasn't a suitable space for that. We don't have a long dresser that it would go on either. Then we looked at this yellow cabinet we have in the room and thought that it might look nice hanging on the side. I put a little hook at the top and here it is! It looks nice, and is kind of the first thing you see when you look into the room.
Anyone else love a thrift store/garage sale bargain?

Very pretty. Somebody spent lot of hours making this.
ReplyDeleteI figured that too...I don't much about needlework, but when I saw it the first thing that flashed through my head was 'wow, someone put a lot of effort into that'.
DeleteIt's a lovely piece and yes....I DO enjoy a good thrift/garage item. I like them for decorating because when you get tired of them you have no problem with donating them to a thrift store yet again. My very favourite is a little pitcher with upside down sun flowers on it. I've had it for years and it cost me ten cents.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about it from that perspective but yeah, if you don't pay much for it, and it was rescued from a thrift store anyway, after a few years if you don't want it anymore, you can donate it back again.
Deletewhat a great find and a perfect spot for it! someone put a lot of work into that piece!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yep, definitely hours and hours of work. I'm glad we could rescue it and get enjoyment out of it.
DeleteIt is very beautiful and a nice handmade piece. I'm off to the thrift store right now:)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope you found some treasures!!!
DeleteVery pretty. I just got home from the mall with my Mom & Sister. Would have much rather been rummaging in a Thrift Store!
ReplyDeleteDFW, Me too!
DeleteDFW and Linda, amen to that, I'll take the thrift stores most anyway over the malls. ESPECIALLY this time of year!
Deletethat looks beautiful, perfect fit too!
ReplyDeleteIt really is so pretty in person, and yes, that spot was just PERFECT for it. Thanks!!
DeleteClever you for finding such a perfect spot for it. You do have the eye!!
ReplyDeleteWell thank you for that. I've always enjoyed putting random things together. Most of the time it works and comes out nicely, ha.
DeleteIt's lovely and if it is a handmade item, that makes it even lovelier! There's not much in the thrift shops around my neck of the woods. The better ones are over priced. I usually go to one to buy used wine glass. I am the worlds worse at breaking them and I refuse to use my good crystal ones! I've already cremated a few of those. I have actually had them break while I was washing them! I do know after Christmas, I am loading up and getting rid of a lot of stuff. Somebody will get a bargain!!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely handmade. Some of the thrift stores here are like that too, they way overprice things. I have a handful that I explore at least once a week (all near my office for lunch break visits). I ever thought about wine glasses, great idea to replace or have 'spares'.
DeleteI love what you did with it. It's beautiful. I don't have much of any thrift shops in my area. Besides, I don't get out much.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Well thank you much for that, much appreciated. :-)
DeleteHow lovely & the perfect spot.
ReplyDeleteYou find some lovely things.
Thank you! It was just the best spot and looks so neat there. Thanks again!
DeleteI love thrift stores and bargains from anywhere. That is a lovely piece. If I had that pattern, I would make one for myself. If a person had double doors and a tall ceiling, that would work used crossways. It would fit over my doors. Plus, I have a similar side of a cabinet, just in case you get tired of it...lol That was a great find and in the perfect spot. I usually carry things around the house, looking for the perfect spot.
ReplyDeleteGreat find!
Oh yeah, I could see that over a set of double doors. It's an unusual spot to put something like that but it really worked out. And that's how I 'discovered' it, by just walking around carrying it, ha.
DeleteWe'll keep you on the short list if we get tired of it, ha. :-)
It's beautiful and you found the perfect place. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThank you for that! And Merry Christmas to you!!!!
DeleteThat is a beautiful piece - and a super find! Someone’s many hours of detailed work has been given a new life by y’all. You placed it in the perfect spot at the farmhouse.
ReplyDeleteI love hand-crafted needlework. I’m fortunate to have some hand-embroidered pieces that my mom did.
Thanks, it was a great find for sure. I look at the many flowers and imagine how long it must have taken to work on that. Then I wonder about the story behind it, who made it, for what purpose, how did it end up there...
DeleteWOW! What a Gorgeous table runner. I love going to thrift stores but never find anything that nice.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find at such a wonderful price besides.
Thanks! I would say that the great finds are more rare for me too. For example, I went to one of my usual spots yesterday at lunch, walked around the entire store, didn't find anything that interested me, ha. Thanks again!!
