HOT BEYOND HOT

106 DEGREES!

HEAT INDEXES OF 118 TO 120!

ARE YOU KIDDING?  These are going to be our highest temps since the great drought of 2011 and they are most likely breaking all time records for those particular days as well.

We have all sorts of warnings and as you can see in the above forecast, they are calling for people to stay inside for the next week.  Specifically Sun/Mon/Tue/Wed because of those heat index numbers which will put us into the rare category of "you might die if you stay outside" category, LOL.

We have decided that we're taking the month of August off when it comes to all outdoor work.

Weeds be damned!
Yard be damned!
Landscaping be damned!

It's time, as we often do in the peak of Summer, to just let the month go.  Oh, I'll go out to the farm to water of course, check the bees and the house, but any new plans are now put on hold indefinitely.  Anything we've already started will just be left to sit and wait until we are ready to start it back up.  Will still be blogging of course, no worries there, we have a ton of photos of things to share, and there will still be cooking and shopping and random musings.

It's also a great time to plan and figure out a course of attack for the time that the weather returns to tolerable levels.  Maybe update that "list" of things to do with things already done and new things to do.

  1. Good for you! You're smart to take off the month and just sit back and ENJOY your beautiful place....and maybe dream of even more things to do.

  2. The only thing going on here outside these days is water, water, water... I was just saying how that if we don't water here in one years time we would lose pretty much everything we have put in here. That is sad and a bit scary. I can remember fruit orchards and flowers and such that grew on old homesteads that hadn't been lived in in years in the mountains where I grew up. They continued on with no care, that would never work here...Texas heat is just so bad and add to that we are dry as a bone. We so need rain. This heat is making me grouchy for sure... LOL

    1. Yep, so true (and sad). I think people sometimes don't understand the Texas heat is unlike anything else.happen everywhere does it? ThanThat doesn't And down here we have the humidity which just makes it even crazier. I never thought about that, if we don't water what we've planted, it all dies.

And yes, I work at an office dealing with customer service and everyone is much crankier now, ha. come on Fall!

  3. And that 106 is in the shade! Without factoring in the humidity. Yep, the dog days of summer are definitely here. You’ve got the right idea - no projects, just survive until this heat wave passes. And plan for the Fall!

    1. Yep, amen! It's just a matter of surviving until the first cool front. I have a feeling we might have a really cold Winter.

  7. So, when are the three nice days in Texas? Here in CA, either early November or sometime in May.

  9. Whew, that's worse than what we've been getting. I call it "wilt weather".

    1. "wilt weather" is a great way to describe it. It's just so hard to get out and do ANYthing here this time of year. You stay cool too!!!

  10. I think you are wise to just keep out of the heat and wait it out. We don't want to hear of our favourite 'farm boys' coming down with heat stroke.

  11. We've been blessed the last two weeks with good weather here in Illinois after weeks of rain that slowed our Grain Bin House build. Like you we've learned to work WITH the weather. Today it is rainy so its book work catch up time. When it's sunny we build and when its really hot we REST. Carry on Two Men!

  12. I know you have to tolerate it but I would really struggle with those sort of temperatures.

    1. It's a struggle for sure. I'm replying to this at almost 11pm our time, the actual temp is 89 and it still "feels" like 101 outside. At 11pm. Ugh.
