INTERESTING VASE TRASH TO TREASURE

Regular readers know that I have a favorite place to look for bargains...our downstairs trash area!  Our building has trash chutes on every floor and they feed into a separate room, but for boxes and other things that people can't put in the chute, there is an area (indoor) near the loading dock where people can put the things they don't want.  I've found several cool items over the last couple of years.

Here is one of the latest!*

*carried back up with gloves and washed thoroughly...

This is a really nice and usually shaped vase.  There is no scale for size but it's about 2 feet tall.

As you can see in this closeup, it's a rich, deep blue, almost a blue green.  It also has a crackle glaze finish that we love as it gives it an antique or vintage look.  The opening is small, not sure what kind of flowers or decor would be nice.  I was thinking that next Spring, when the Huisache trees are in bloom...

...a few branches with these yellow flowers on them would be nice trailing over the edge of the vase.

Of course it's also pretty enough to just stand on its own on a living room end table or maybe the side table in the dining room.

    1. It is isn't it? I don't think it's old, but it's neat looking and definitely a statement piece. I should have noted too, no cracks, not chips, it looks like someone just didn't want it and put it out for someone else to take.

  2. That is one unique vase. Love the color. The yellow branches from your Huisache would be gorgeous.
A couple of white long stem roses would be pretty in that; just make sure you remove several leaves on the bottom of the stem or anything that has leaves, remove them so that there are no leaves touching the water & change the water every day.
Artificial ( or live ones if you can find any around in your area) pussywillows would also look nice or dry silk grasses of some sort, Eucalyptus will add a nice fragrance to the room; tulips for early Spring, Nice bright yellow sunflowers (3-5) for Fall (I'm sure you can find some growing in your farm area someplace), white lilies.
Many other options you can use.

    1. Forgot to mention; if using fresh flowers, cut the end of the stem at an angle.
When changing water, do the same; making a fresh angle cut each time (don't need to cut much off) . Doing an angle cut, the flowers can soak up more water.
Really doesn't look like the easiest vase to clean out

    2. Thanks for the idea long stem roses would be beautiful. I like dried items too. You are right, it does NOT look "cleaning" friendly, ha. We will keep that in mind!

  3. Nothing to do with the vase which is unusual (not "usual" as you wrote). What impact has the current pandemic had on your plans for redoing the farm? Everything on hold? Roderick

    1. Hey Roderick! Yes, plans really just on hold. 2nd Man was laid off (I'm not sure if you saw that post). We still have some estimates for the remodel, some plans and an alternative for a prebuilt cabin type of home. We knew this was probably coming, so we planned ahead. Thanks for the reminder it might be time for an update post. There is another thing that has happened that has put some uncertainty into things too. 2020 is no Bueno.

    2. I must have missed the news about his layoff, which is a bummer. And I am sorry that there are other problems. Not a good time for everyone and anyone. Roderick

  4. I love the color of that vase. It looks beautiful by itself and it will look gorgeous with flowers or foliage.

  5. What kind of mark is on the bottom? I fund a couple of beautiful vases in a Salvation Army thrift store, marked $3 with a Dollar Tree sticker on the bottom. I tried to get them cheaper, but I was told that they had people trained to price items, so they were sure that was a good price. No wonder Sally's went out of business at that location.
