Here are some random moments, influenced by The X Files, that I captured while mowing on the big green zen machine. By the way, for those new to the blog, that's what I call my John Deere riding mower.
CROP CIRCLE!
Above is a patch of space that I wish you could see in person. It's this sort of circular area of tall random growth with a center that is filled with the softest, airiest plant of some sort. It's strange because nothing else grows in the center, just this airy plant. I sort of just discovered it this weekend so I'm not sure what is under there, some sort of damp area? Maybe something that's more rocky underneath than the surrounding area like an ancient Stonehenge? More Easter Island statues? The mothership landing site perhaps?

INTELLIGENT ALIEN PLANT LIFE!
I think it's fascinating watching things grow. This vine has been putting out runners, starting with the top wire of the barbed wire fence. Then it put out a second runner on the second wire. Then it started a third branch to follow the third wire. It's almost as if it has a mission, going a certain direction for some sort of ultimate goal. Not sure what that ultimate goal is though. Inter species communication? Farm domination? World domination?

MYSTERY WHITE SKULL!
Then as I was mowing at the back of the property, I saw something bright white in with the green that caught my eye. Instead of mowing over it, I pulled up alongside it, moved some grass out of the way and was startled to see this bleached skull. I'm not sure what type of animal it is/was, perhaps I don't want to know. Chupacabra? Werewolf? Gremlin?
Dang, where are Mulder and Scully when you need them most?
The Truth is Out There?
Nah, I'm thinking it was just too much sun yesterday!

At least it wasn't a human skull :-O
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for small favors huh? Yikes!
DeleteNow that's a funny day on the mower. Or creepy, i'm not sure which, ha. Too funny, nicely written.
ReplyDeleteThanks! It was fun actually. Only creepy in retrospection, ha.
Deletelol
ReplyDeleteThanks!!! :-)
DeleteCow skull thats what it looks like.
ReplyDeleteI wondered about that, that was my first reaction but then I saw some sharp looking teeth? Not sure!
Deletecrop circles!!!!
ReplyDeleteGotta love it huh? LOL!
DeleteLooks like the vine you have growing is a maypop, sometimes called 'passion vine'. Beautiful purple flowers and you can eat the fruit.
ReplyDeleteI had some maypop vines growing elsewhere, I think anyway, and I didn't think to look and see if that's what this is too. I'll have to check it out next time I'm out there! Thanks for stopping by!
Deleteoh! i used to love the x-files - bahahahhaha!
ReplyDeleteyour friend,
kymber
Me too Kymber! They kind of lost me toward the end, but I loved it anyway.
DeleteLarge eye socket, small brain pan, huge mandibular, and flattened teeth (?). Moat likely a large herbivore. It's amazing what you can learn from teeth. The picture makes the head look narrow though, and cow heads are wide. If it was a complete skull it would be easier to tell. Could be a llama... or if the teeth are more pointed than they look it could be something entirely different.
ReplyDeleteNice observations! I might try to track it down again and check it out more closely. I thought I saw some teeth that looked sharp. I wondered if it was some sort of coyote type animal? It may remain a mystery. But i will check it out closer next time.
DeleteI know you're going to think I'm nuts (well, I am but I digress...).... Did you happen to save the skull and if you did, can you ship it to me? Shorty LOVES bones. She has bones from a cow and a raccoon. She would love to research your skull and figure out what it is.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that's nuts at all. Heck, maybe she'll grow up to be a forensic anthropologist like "Bones"! :-)
DeleteI didn't dig it up and didn't mess with it, it's still where it was (and I think I remember where). I think it was semi buried in the ground but I promise next time I'm out there to see it, i'll hop off the zen machine and see what I can gather up.
This really made me laugh. I know that most UFO landings seem to be in Texas so perhaps you really are the centre of alien activity after all.
ReplyDeletePerhaps I'll tell you my real live ghost story one of these days.....
Hey, i''ll laugh with you, it's ok. Yes, Texas has a lot of "sightings". Hey, the first time I'm out there on a moonless night (and the weather is cooler, much cooler), I'm going to lay outside and "search" for the truth in the sky!
DeleteI LOVE ghost stories. I believe!
Isn't it funny the things we can day-dream about while "working" on the farm? My life sometimes feels like one big whispy dream...hope I don't wake up...I love farm dream'n.
ReplyDeleteAww, that's a neat comment. "If I'm dreaming I don't want to wake up!" Yep, awesome feeling huh? I do wander around out there and it often still doesn't seem like "ours". But every little thing I do make is that much more ours. i love it! Thank you!
