BEE DAY

I SURVIVED!
NO STINGS!
(KNOCK ON WOOD)

I'll have to post pics of the process but it's late and I wanted to hold to my promise of an update...

Bee package
Here is a peak into the eye of the storm!
How would like to stick your hand in there?

I DID!

I took plenty of photos.  Sunday afternoon is the first 24 hour check and removal of the package from inside the hive so there will be a whole series of pics I'll have to put together.  All went extremely well and our lovely ladies are, hopefully, having a 'bonding experience' tonight.

I can truly say it was a magical experience, and I loved every moment of it!

Don't forget to enter the giveaway if you haven't yet, it ends Sunday night...

  5. How exciting! I'd love to keep bees, but they aren't allowed here in town. And Madame Allergist would be shouting "Get out the straitjacket, she's trying to kill herself." Either that or, in a thick Germanic accent, "Off Vith her head, schnell!"

  10. I have two new packages coming for two hew hives. I love watching the bees go about their work. Such fascinating creatures. They are work but so much easier than pets and they give back. Your garden will never be the same.

  12. Congratulations! I've always been fascinated with bees, but am not a fan of honey so I've never been interested in having hives. Their lifecycle is so complex that I just love to watch them work. I've seen hives with plexiglass sides so we can see inside and have seen videos of bees at work. I'm in awe of them. Today as I was checking my Facebook page, I saw a story about a new type of bee hive. It's called a flow hive and the inventors were showcasing it. The preformed cells are hinged at the bottom, can be opened slightly and the honey flows downward toward tubes that come out of the hive and drain the honey directly into containers. With this type of hive you don't have to disassemble it to get the honey, no suit to wear, no smoke, no scraping. You might enjoy looking it up; there's a video which shows how it all works.
