SEVERE WEATHER COMING

We got this email alert last night from the City of Houston, warning of the weather coming today.

It's going to be an interesting afternoon for sure!

Here is the morning radar...it's coming!

AlertHouston | Severe Weather, Including Tornadoes and Street Flooding Possible Tuesday

DATE: November 16, 2015 11:40:35 PM CST

The City of Houston is monitoring the potential for severe thunderstorms, some of which may spawn tornadoes, as well as cause heavy rainfall beginning Tuesday.   The main threats from this system will be damaging winds, the potential for multiple tornadoes, and heavy rain, which may cause flooding of roads and low-lying areas.
Residents should take steps to prepare for this type of weather.  This includes:
  • Ensure you have a way to be informed of severe weather.  This includes having a NOAA Weather Radio, and making sure your mobile phone is charged and can receive Wireless Emergency Alerts.
  • Be prepared to take shelter if a Tornado WARNING is issued for your area.  The best place to shelter from a tornado is an interior room on the lowest floor possible.
  • Be prepared for delays during Tuesday commute.  Plan extra time, as rainfall may make some access roads impassible.
  • NEVER drive into areas of high water. If you can't see the street below, the water is too high for your vehicle.  Please remember to Turn Around, Don't Drown.
Be sure to follow local weather broadcasts for the latest information.  In addition, stay up to date with the National Weather Service's website and find local rain and stream flood gauge information at harriscountyfws.org. For updates on this situation, visit the City of Houston Emergency Information Site at houstontx.gov/emergency.

I found these NOAA WEATHER RADIOS on Amazon...the more severe weather we get, the more we think we need something other than our phones and computers.

Does anyone have something similar?

UPDATE:  Storms came through, some heavy winds, lots of rain, a few funnel clouds spotted but nothing reached the ground.  And now it's COLD...

  3. We had strong winds and heavy rainfall around 4am this morning. Of course I was already up as I'm an early riser; usually around 3am I'm up and about.
The alarm on our First Alarm system went off earlier which woke me up reporting severe weather in the area.
We have a First Alarm System programmed to the surrounding counties that are near us so whenever a severe storm that is getting close, an alarm goes off and weather report follows. It has battery backup just in case the electricity happens to go off we would still be able to get the weather reports.

    1. 3am? Wow. The other night I went TO bed about 2am, ha. First Alarm? I will have to check that out. I think I'd like to have something for those things that happen at night when asleep. My phone alert never wakes me up,even with the volume all the way up, ha.

    2. Sorry. It's called First Alert. After getting our system some ears ago; I wouldn't be without one now. It's a Great thing to have; especially living out in the country where we have no tornado sirens going off, etc.
Oh, we received just a little over an inch of rain during the storms that passed through.

    1. Aw, thanks! Yep, we are good and it wasn't quite as bad as they feared, still some downed trees in the area, shingles off on a few homes around etc. Farm is fine, and in town is good too.

    1. I think they aren't a bad thing to have. I think they pick up on a signal or something and set off an alert tone. An inch and a half? Wow. Not sure how much we got, I'll have to check. And yep, it's definitely chilly...good time for chili? Ha.
