2nd Family has warned us about scorpions out there and so we're always cautious. Over the weekend, I turned over the garden cart to load it with the mulch for the blueberries and saw this on the inside...
It looked dead so my first reaction was to just flick it out with my hand. I was about to reach in but then decided to use a stick...and it moved!
The scorpion died shortly after this photograph was taken...
Probably due to "stick trauma" ... it's a thing when it comes to bugs, spiders, snakes and the like! LOL
ReplyDeleteDefinitely stick trauma, ha. And maybe shoe trauma.
DeleteEeekk!!! That thing looks wicked, especially with the stinger on the tail poised to jab you. That would have made for a very bad day. Good idea you used a stick instead of your hand!
ReplyDeleteRight? When I turned the cart upright it didn't crawl it just slid down the side. So I figured it was dead. Wrong! Ha.
DeletePossibly died of fright - right? I don't find scorpions in my part of rural TX - snakes, lizards, spiders - yes. I'd just a soon not find scorpions.
ReplyDeleteThey are creepy for sure!!!
DeleteDid you know scorpions shine green in black light? This info might come in handy on night time bathroom jaunts.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that and I've often thought of getting a spotlight/flashlight with black light to shine into the yard at night. But then again...
DeleteLooks like I'll never move to Texas!
ReplyDeleteLOL! They are scary for sure!!!
DeleteYou scared the thing to death.
ReplyDeleteHave to be careful especially if and when you go under the house. Under logs, rocks, leaves and etc.
One thing you don't want to do is go barefoot or wear flip flops.
Yes, I've had to crawl under there a few times and it always freaks me out. And the good thing is because of the mesquite trees, we've been wary of ever going barefoot. And no flip-flops either, ha.
DeleteI have never seen a scorpion, but I am terrified of them! It would die shortly after I saw it! I would have to get a black light flashlight for sure if I ever came to Texas.
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for the blacklight flashlight. I think it could fun...or completely scary at how many there are, ha.
DeleteLast time I saw a scorpion was decades ago when I lived in Tucson.
ReplyDeleteIn all the years we've been back and forth out there, this is maybe the third time we've seen one.
DeleteOH HELL NO.
ReplyDeleteyou took the words out of my mouth, ha.
DeleteThat is my reaction, also. I never saw a scorpion in all the years I lived in Houston. Now I'm in Huntsville and see at least one a year. Not a fan.
ReplyDeleteGood point have never seen one in all my years here too. But yep a handful at the farm. I fear they are far more prevalent than we realize. We prefer to be cautious but understand they may be all over.
DeleteSat. HAPPY BIRTHDAY 1st. Man
ReplyDeleteCheers to another year.
May it be filled with much love & happiness.
Awww thank you. I didn't post yesterday and 2nd Man didn't for me because the day was just, well, odd. Stay tuned tomorrow for the details.
DeleteThat must have been a scary one. Warm greetings!
