Was in the grocery store the other day on my weekly shopping trip and I saw this display:
S'mores ingredients at the store |
I thought it was pretty cool that they put the three items together in one spot for that iconic of dessert treats, "s'mores". It really is just three ingredients:
Graham crackers
Chocolate
Marshmallows
It seems there are a variety of ways of putting them together but in the end, it's just melted chocolate and toasty marshmallow with graham crackers. Oven, campfire, stovetop. Whatever works.

In the end you get what many (including myself) consider a delicious sweet treat. What I didn't realize though, is how polarizing it can be. When asking some friends and coworkers, I found that many people simply don't like them.
2nd Man is one of those...he's not a fan. For him, it's really because he does not like marshmallows. So that made us think about about posting here:
What about you?
Yes for "s'more" or "no s'more" ha.
I'm with 2nd Man. Nope! (I detest graham crackers.)
ReplyDeleteHa, a vote for NO. But no graham crackers? I thought everyone like those, ha.
DeleteYes, but the fun of trying to get the marshmallow 'just right' without losing it into the campfire or burning it to a crisp is a huge part of that!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good point. Many a marshmallow has been lost to a fire, ha. It's an art form for sure.
DeleteYes for me, but I make mine in cast iron skillet, but it's more like a S'mores dip so in place of chocolate candy bar, I use the Reese's peanut butter cups on bottom, topped with the mini marshmallows, place in oven and use the graham crackers as my 'dipper'
ReplyDeleteThat sounds wonderful!
DeleteS'mores dip? YUM! ;-)
Deletei bet if 2nd man made his own marshmallows he would like them. i hate marshmallows but love them when i make my own.
ReplyDeleteYou know I don't think I've ever even had a homemade marshmallow. Maybe we'll have to look up some ideas for that.
DeleteABSOLUTE NO! Everything is wrong with the mix. Roderick
ReplyDeleteHello Mr. Roderick!! SO that's a hard no, right? LOL. I hear ya, some people have said similar when I mentioned it. :-)
DeleteWhen I was a kid ... Loved them! At 78 ... not so much since I can't stand the crunching of graham crackers and everything else is all sugar!
ReplyDeleteWe have noticed as we get older, some of the things we used to love as kids just seem way too sweet now. So far though, I'm still on team s'mores, ha.
DeleteI like making them with the squares of dark chocolate caramel (Ghiradelli's)
ReplyDeleteMmmm!! That sounds like a great combo!!
DeleteYes.. I may have some for my birthday (Gonna be 79! That's the oldest that I've ever been and I don't know how to act!!)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Peg. I’ll be 85 next month and I know just how you feel. 85!! Oh, my!
Delete79??!?! HAPPY *early* BIRTHDAY TO YOU PEG. Enjoy your day and hey, you're only as old as you feel.
Delete85?!?!!? Wow, HAPPY BIRTHDAY *early* to you LindaL! All our best!!!
DeleteYes for me!! I like all 3 things. Putting them all together makes a wonderfully gooey, chocolate-y, crispy goody. Getting the marshmallow browned just right is the fun part.
ReplyDeleteSmart display in the store! Especially with the 4th of July holiday coming up.
It's probably a little hot for s'mores but hey, it's all about having fun with family and friends, ha. Yep the right browned to burned to incinerated ratio is alway hard, ha.
DeleteNot a fan of the combo treat and not a fan of marshmallows.
ReplyDeleteI do remember trying to make them when visiting cousins who lived in the country (south Georgia). They thought they were a treat over the open fire. I was already spoiled by the fact I liked a better quality of chocolate than regular Hersheys. (My Dad went to Europe on Business, flew through Amsterdam and brought back chocolates and cheese from duty free. My little elementary age taste buds were forever changed).
I do like a good ginger flavored cookie with a cup of tea. Graham crackers are a bit bland. I have the same brand as in the picture. Got them for making a pie.
I guess its one of those things that you either like or don't. Another reason may be it was a bit on the too sweet side. I do like sweet, but I also like flavor to go along with it.

It seems marshmallows are almost always polarizing aren't they? Must be a texture thing for those. Yes, European chocolates are so wonderful. Grahams are great smashed up, mixed with butter and put on the bottom of a pie, HA!!! Thanks for stopping by!!!
DeleteNo thank you. Let me dip the crackers in the melted chocolate. Deb
ReplyDeleteWell now there's a winning idea too. Just melt the chocolate and dip. We can do that!!
DeleteI'm not a fan of marshmallows either, BUT I love s'mores. Maybe it is a childhood memory thing.
ReplyDeleteSometimes that is a reason for things we seem to like from our childhood.
DeleteOver a campfire they are grand. But one's enough.
ReplyDeleteHa, maybe the socializing around the fire makes it good, for that once in a blue moon time, ha.
DeleteI love Graham Crackers dipped in milk, broken into milk, spread with peanut butter, I just love them. I love chocolate even pedestrian Hershey's. I love marshmallows but should not have the sugar. I had never had a smore until I was 75. I hate the cloying sweet taste. I ruined all three ingredients.
ReplyDeleteOh those in milk are SO good. When I was little I used to crush them up and put them in milk and eat it with a spoon ha. Hey, Hershey's has its place too.
DeleteI like graham crackers (with butter on them), marshmallows, and chocolate…. just not squished together.
ReplyDeleteFunny, we never thought it like that. Separately they are probably something most people enjoy but for some, it doesn't work when mixed together, ha.
DeleteYes to s'mores. We have started doing them with the chocolate shortbread cookies and roasted marshmallows. Next level delicious!
ReplyDeleteHello!! Well there's a great idea, will have to remember that. Sounds yummy!!! Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI like them well enough but my attention span is short. It is fun to make a few for guests at the campfire, but after I round up all of the stuff, they are expected to make second helpings themselves.
ReplyDeleteNow that's too funny! Love it. "I'll help with the first round but you're on your own for followups" ha.
DeleteA fun way to make s’mores is oven toast the marshmallow in between the graham cracker and then dip this in melted chocolate.
ReplyDeleteOne year we had leftover peeps from easter and we used those over the campfire for s’mores the sugar coating on the peeps takes the concoction to a whole new level!
Hmm, never thought about that but it sounds great. We might just have to have a s'mores party soon ha.
