A TALE OF TWO CUTTING GARDENS, INSPIRATION THURSDAY

So a cutting garden (i.e. flowers) is in our future (maybe next Spring if the weather cooperates).  So we're always looking for ideas online and found these. One, above, is in a raised bed...neat, orderly, easy to plan.  The other, below, is random, scattered, an assortment of varieties.  We like them both.

Of course, perhaps we could do random stuff scattered around the yards and yet also have some orderly flowers in raised beds.  Maybe the best of both worlds is a good solution.  Each has their place in the yard?

Be inspired!

  2. Both types have their place. Wouldn't it be wonderful to roam your 11 acres and come across the second type of flowers?

    1. You are so very right. Of course I need some for the distant parts of property that are drought tolerant, ha.

  3. I lean towards the random (not sure what that says about me), but indeed both have their place.

  4. I like things a little unstructured but it depends on the area I guess. If I had 11 acre, I would do both because space is not a premium. And oh how happy your bees would be...a smorgasbord!

  5. Both types of flower gardens are beautiful. If you're wanting to cut flowers for the house, the first one would be more convenient. It would be very pretty as part of a parterre garden. The second one would be gorgeous in all kinds of random places around the yard. Have both kinds!

    1. Good point, having the orginatinzed for using as cuttings in the house would be much more convenient. I think I'll just try to plant some seeds in dirt around the yard next Spring and see what happens.

  6. I do both. I planned the structured raised bed cutting garden (4 4X16). Then because I had so many seeds, corms, rhizomes and plants leftover I 'scatter' planted flowers all over the place in unstructured islands/pockets on the ranch...beautiful...those that survived the drought.

    1. I like that idea!! A planned structured cutting garden and then making it so that you just scatter the leftovers around. Great idea!!! Best of both worlds. Thanks!
