STORAGE UNIT FINDS

So a few months back, I spent a day off going through one of our storage units and got one emptied out.  Some was donated, some of it (broken items) was thrown away and then I brought some things to the farm.  For those that are new to the blog, these are storage units that have some of our stuff in there and then the stuff I inherited from my Mom and Dad.  We had three, and now we're down to one large one and another small one that's almost empty.  It has my Dad's tools, workbench, etc that will go to the barn at the farm soon.

This is a coffee pot with sugar and creamer that belonged to a Great Aunt in my family.  I can't remember off the top of my head the maker but it is very pretty and we'll definitely keep it (and use it) at the farm.

These are awesome...my Mom had assembled a collection of vintage aluminum-ware.  She had a red tray, twelve cups of varying colors, a yellow pitcher and four long spoons.  We can't wait to use these next Summer for some ice cream floats perhaps?

This bowl belonged to my grandmother.  It's not in the best shape with a few nicks and chips and the gold trim rubbed off in spots but it's still a neat thing to have.  We think it will make a nice bowl for sitting out on the counter...fresh fruit perhaps?

She also had this old, vintage print.  It's sort of a painting but not an original.  I think these used to be sold in five and dime type stores.  It's pretty and because of the flower themes, it will go great in the guest room at the farm.

So those are a few of our latest bargains, and I say bargains because they were the best kind...FREE because we already had them!

  1. The pattern on the bowl is my friend's favorite. We had aluminum tumblers when I was young--one color for each of us four children. Mama bought them so we would not be hurt by broken glass. I remember the relief in her voice as she expressed her concern. You might now want to use aluminum tumblers to limit your consumption of aluminum.

Giving up storage units will free up money for seeds or whatever on the farm!

  8. Love all your great inherited finds. I had a neighbor who had those aluminum glasses. Loved drinking ice cold water from them. They sweat like heck, but the water was so good!!! M

  9. Those finds are awesome. I had forgotten about those kinds of glasses. I remember they were in our household as well. Happy Thanksgiving.

  10. Seems one of the few pluses of getting old(er) is that we can look around and see that we've "feathered our nests" with the warmth and memories of our extended kin!

  12. I love all your stuff, especially that coffee set! I remember how those aluminum glasses would freeze my hand when I was kid! I bought a couple sets of the reproduction one they have now, but I rarely use them.

Unfortunately, I am slowly filling up a storage unit with my things to make room for inherited things!

  13. 1st Man,

I see you've been hard at work going through your storage units.
Just love all of your finds aka: family items. How funny, the coffee pot you have with the creamer and sugar jar is exactly the same set we found at the estate. Mom held on to it from her Mother years ago.

  14. Those are wonderful items. I have items of my own that my mother has given to me. Currently they are in storage. Some are valuable while others are only valuable to me because of the memories I associate with them while growing up. No matter what they are...they are special. I have some carnival glass that dates during the depression from my mother and another glass (actually it's plastic) set that I remember drinking sodas from while growing up. They were purchased using Green Stamps from the Green Stamp store. I enjoy reading your posts because they remind me of where I'm at and memories also of growing up. Keep up the great work.
