BEAT THE COLD

Yep...this is our forecast...

Today, a high of near 80 (could break a record I fact)...with temps dropping overnight to 40 (they say temp should drop 40 degrees in about 20 minutes once the front passed through).  Then it won't get any warmer on Sunday than Saturday's low and we have a freeze Sunday night into Monday morning.

Then upper 20's on Monday evening.

So today it's off to the farm to undo hoses, shut off valves, and wrap a couple of faucet heads.  This isn't pipe bursting weather but it's easier to do this in the warm weather now before the deeper cold hits in January.  I hate doing this stuff in the cold, my fingers always feel like they are freezing, ha.

I'll harvest what I can from the garden too.

More later, as I'm sure tomorrow will be bundled up inside where it's warm!
Our apologies for being cold in 30's when we realize so many people are in sub-zero temps. Our hats, coats and gloves off to you...I don't know about 2nd Man but I would surely freeze up and wither away like a late season bloom if I was in sub-zero temps.  We don't know how you do it!

More later today or tomorrow!

  1. I will second your accolades to those who manage serious winters well. I am like you and know I am not built for extreme cold.

We are a day behind you with the crazy temperature thing. Winterizing here we come. I guess we will be driving and singing (to the tune of The William Tell Overture) To the lake to the lake to the lake, lake, lake

Down in the 20's here this evening with wind chill it will be single digits and only a high of 31 deg. for tomorrow.
It does get cold here in Texas at times, but it doesn't stay cold for long.Right now just grateful that there is no ice on the roads

    1. WOW! I hope you have a warming trend soon. I hate that bitter cold (I've lived in it as a younger child, though maybe not quite that cold, ha). Be warm!

  6. Part of my day was spent just like yours. Wrapped some faucets, put blankets around my key lime trees and my baby avocado trees, and picked enough fruit to last through the next few cold days. It sure is easier to do in shorts and a T-shirt. Oh, I also covered up my basil plants - I did this for the butterflies - the basil was full of butterflies today - even saw some bumblebees.
Hope you got everything done today and that 2nd Man has bought the ingredients for a nice, hot soup for tomorrow!

    1. I know, MUCH easier to do while warm. Trying to do that stuff in the cold is horrible. You'd rather it just be done and then stay in where it's warm.

  8. The weather did drop like a rock! It fell while were driving home from seeing the most spectacular production of The Nutcracker I've ever seen. We started out at 81° in downtown and by the time we got to the house 20 minutes later it was 55° and kept falling! Now it's 35° and "feels like" 28°. Brrrrrrrr. Best wishes to ANYONE in this weather especially you all that are more north than us.

    1. Wasn't it crazy/. It was just a matter of minutes that it dropped SO far. Brrrrr is right! Mother Nature can indeed do whatever She wants! I've heard the production is amazing. Lucky you!

    1. I guess it is all relative. As long as there is no icy roads and you have to drive in it, it's nice to enjoy from the warm inside.

  10. 1st Man,

Brrr......7 degrees here with a windchill making it feel more like - 10.
We had to go out at 2:15AM to rescue our son, his radiator decided to overheat in the cold weather. Working on his truck this afternoon in 18 degree temperatures.

Stay warm, and be careful doing maintenance of any type without gloves on.
