WEEKEND SO FAR AND COVID IN HOUSTON

Thanksgiving Day was not only a holiday but it was a heavy rain day.  Yesterday (Friday), we went to the farm for a bit to check things out (all was fine, albeit VERY wet and muddy).  Then, we came back into town and took 2nd Man's car in for an oil change and tire rotation.  Today and tomorrow I am staying in town.  In fact, it's raining today as this posts and so tomorrow, I just want to rest up before the long four day weekend is over and it's back to the reality of work.

Today's big "in town" project is to get our tree up and decorated!  Pics when it's all done.

We do have some good news, though tentative, for the Houston area...

...yesterday, they lowered the threat level for Harris County to "YELLOW".  Only one step up from the lowest.  YAY!  As opposed to some other places in Texas, Harris County, which is the entire Houston area, has a high vaccination rate and a lot of people are still wearing masks in crowded areas.  The numbers have been consistently decreasing across all the metrics (new cases, positivity, hospitalizations, deaths etc).

Of course, this is all tempered with the news that an Omicron variant is being investigated.  Time will tell on that and we'll see what the outcome is but so far, so good for our area.  2nd Man and I still wear our masks everywhere, even if others aren't.  We also stay away from crowded events and our boosters are due next month.  Everyone stay safe!

  1. We still wear our masks and stay away from crowds. The numbers here are on the rise AGAIN. We pulled all of our decorations out yesterday and will be doing the tree today and tomorrow.
    Have a great weekend.

    1. Yep, same here. Well, we don't have numbers on the rise (yet, I worry about the big get-togethers and traveling) but same here we wear ours when we go out and avoid large crowds of people we don't know. Working on the tree and stuff yesterday and today. So much fun to get in the Christmas spirit.

  2. Continue to wearing our masks as well.
No rain here but getting a few sprinkles off and on today but not enough to even register anything in our rain gauge.

    1. It's the good thing to do, for ourselves and for others in case we did have virus we were shedding. We had 2 inches on Thanksgiving day. In fact, we broke the record for Thanksgiving Day rainfall, go figure, ha.

  3. It was really chilly today along with light rain all day. It would have been a good day to make soup but I still had Thanksgiving leftovers.
Covid is decreasing in my county also. I still mask when I leave my house and avoid crowds. I got my booster a few weeks ago. So things were looking better - and now along comes this new variant. As you said, time will tell.
    Stay safe!

    1. We have been eating on leftovers too. Congrats on the booster but yeah, who knows with omicron what will happen now. Stay safe and warm and full, ha.

  4. Hi - new visitor to your blog. I live in Utah. Covid rates still very high here as we have so many who refuse to get the vaccine. Hubby and I still wear our masks when we go out and everyone in our household has had both vaccine shots and the booster. We are doing some travel by air in December, including a trip to Texas so I am a little nervous, but I hate to put all of life on hold forever, so we are doing what we can and taking precautions. The new variant is worrying. I don't understand why so many just won't get the vaccine. I enjoy your blog and have visited a couple of times, but this is my fist time to comment. Thanks and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

    1. Well first of all, HELLO AND WELCOME! Always nice to meet new friends. Many parts of Texas have people who still refuse but thankfully, we have higher vaccination numbers. Still though as you said, so many people refusing to get vaccinated. But like you said, we can't put life on hold forever. When we have to do something, we just make sure we either wear our masks or the people around us (family/friends) are fully vaccinated.

Thanks for the comments on the blog and our slow journey to a simpler life, ha. Come back and don't be a stranger. Stay safe!!!
