Regular readers know that I have a favorite place to look for bargains...our downstairs trash area! Our building has trash chutes on every floor and they feed into a separate room, but for boxes and other things that people can't put in the chute, there is an area (indoor) near the loading dock where people can put the things they don't want. I've found quite a few cool items over the last few years.
I went downstairs and saw these in the recycle dumpster! What the heck? I snatched them up immediately and took them back upstairs. When I brought them in, even 2nd Man looked at them and said "wow, those are really nice!"
Here they are dusted off and at the farm.
They are really pretty. Not too heavy as they are made of a lightweight metal. Since it's more of an open 'woven' pattern, they don't hold water of course. They are matching in style but two different nice large sizes. One is 30" high and the other is 24".
We were thinking they might be good painted or perhaps left as is and used at the farm maybe outside on the porch. If we get the back porch we want, it will be large and covered and will hold a dining table...so that gives us a whole other "room" to decorate, ha. These would be perfect on an outdoor dining table.

ReplyDelete1st thing I thought off was to get a couple of solar lights and place in there; leaving the base attached of course to where you just have the upper part (solar part) sticking up above.
Would give you some light to decorate your porch with.

DeleteWell ok then. Not sure if you've been in the market for building a new home on 10 acres of land in the middle of nowhere without building supplies easily nearby, but...IT AIN'T EASY. $500,000? Sure. $600,000? Super easy. $700,000? They will start tomorrow. At the other end of the scale, builders aren't too excited to truck in workers, deliver supplies, etc, down a 1/4 mile driveway. So that knocked out about 75% of any local builders. Banks aren't too excited about rural new construction either. We finally found a bank and they were ok with our budget and our debt/income ratio, etc. That has just left us with builders as the last thing. One we liked the most has about an 18-month waiting list. We'd rather get something sooner than that. To quote a famous song, isn't it ironic that tomorrow we are heading to the place that we have mostly decided on to show them the modifications of their floor plan that we would like done. The quote about if we get the back porch we want is because we have chosen, from about 50 floorplans, the one we want and we are hopeful they can give us the large covered back porch (if it's structurally possible). Just so you know, we had to give them $1000, to keep our place in the process. Should we decide against it, we lose $1000. Even though they are about 35 miles from our farm, they are willing to do it. I'd say stay tuned for an announcement soon but if the process for that is too slow and you want to read another blog about house building because you are tired of this one, you are welcome.
DeleteJanie, thanks for the kind words. I think Roderick means well, but maybe it comes across as aggressive or rude. He may really be wanting to see a blog about building a new home and doesn't get excited about cooking or gardening or whatever. It's our sandbox, we get to put what kind of sand is in there and people can play or go to another playground, ha. We don't do this to make money obviously, we just do it to share a part of our lives and we keep a record for ourselves. It's a gradual journey that has had ups and downs, but we're getting there. Thanks again for the support. :-)

I don't care what you post about, your love of life (and each other) is what makes this world a better place. Ignore the haters.Those vases are gorgeous, you are lucky to have access to finds like this and you are saving these things from the landfill so that is a win win in our book. ReplyDeleteFunny you mentioned Z Gallerie, we have found a few things downstairs that came from there (still had stickers on the bottom). Including one rather fun item that we will post about soon. We were out at the farm today since we were in the area on another appointment, and we looked at them and the opening is too narrow to get a light down, well, at least a big one. But I might see if I can figure out something that would work. Thanks again!!
