LIVING ROOM BOOKCASES ALMOST FINISHED

Part of this weekend was spent getting our books organized.  We're not the type that alphabetizes the books, but we try to keep subjects together when possible.  When you become book hoarders, you need some sort of organization, LOL. So here they are, with bookends in place (used those old school, metal ones that are almost invisible).  We decided that we wanted to take our
collection of milk glass and use that as an accent.  This is just a small portion (all found at thrift stores and tag sales) of what we have.  So we chose 15 of the biggest, and used them as accents on each shelf.  We think it looks pretty good.  We also re purposed a floor lamp out there that we weren't using.  That space at the end of the bookcase was made for it.  It's a good solution and let's us use it.

    1. Thanks! It sort of breaks things up and yet gives a cleaner look. Plus we're going to use more milkglass (we have TOO much, ha) in other rooms of the house and sort of unify all the rooms. It's about time this collection paid off, ha.

  2. All you need now is a comfy reading chair under the light and you're set :) Very nice.

    1. Ahh, a comfy chair. Yep, hoping for that soon. Need to start checking craigslist or tag sales to see if I can repurpose something! Of course we still need a couch, and some mattresses, and some dining room chairs, etc, etc, ha. Thanks for the kind words!

    1. Thanks! It's a slow process, as you well know, but it's so rewarding in the end. Just like your awesome hallway with the family pictures. LOVE it. Looks great. I think you said you had a bunch of books in boxes? We need to find you a bookcase or two and get those books up and in use! :-)

    2. Too right, at the moment the one bookcase I have is double thick with books - not ideal and I still have about 5 cases of books to go. Still, all will work out in time! Glad you like my hall, it looks even better in person. I have painted the bathroom a dark green colour now, so there is a whole sort of Scottish theme coming through in that part of the house!

    1. Smushy chair, I like that description. As long as it's comfy I'll be happy! Of course, I may not have time for lounging in cushy chairs, ha.

  5. Love the bookcases, they look so organized and "usable". Guess I really need to do some book editing as all our shelves are soooo crammed full it's hard to see what we have, and there is no room for more bookcases. How does one decide what to get rid of? At one time, I NEEDED each of them, right??

    1. We've been lucky so far, we just bought more bookcases as they got full, lol. But at the farmhouse, that's it. Unless we put bookcases in another room. Hmm....I think there's a spot in the master bedroom, ha!

  6. Looks wonderful and I love your milk glass. You must be very talented at finding things at tag sales and thrift stores! My sister has a collection of milk glass and I have been looking for pieces just forever and have never found any.

    1. You know, it always seems they are over in the dusty corners with the vases and stuff. I guess most people just walk by and think 'meh, white vases' and skip over them. Not sure why. We LOVE them, they are so pretty. Keep looking, you'll find some!
