SICK KITTY, HOT WORK, GOOD FOOD, WEEKEND UPDATE

2nd Man didn't go out yesterday and I didn't go back today because Brisbane is acting strangely.  We're not sure what it is but we're watching him.  He's 17 years old and so when he's not his usual self we have to be alert.  He seems to be better today but we're still watching him and giving him lots of attention.

I didn't have to mow, this is the yard a week after mowing.  Still looking good.  Thankfully, it's the time of year when the grass growth is slowing down.  I will probably only have one more time to mow actual growing grass.  I say growing because sometimes I mow after the first freeze or two when everything is dead/dormant and I can clear new areas that way.

It's still hot here, upper 80's and humid.

I did edge everything though, haven't done that in a few weeks and it was definitely out of control.  Now it's all nice and neat once again.

The lantana is getting huge...and we are happy about that.  It's so pretty and hey, they can fill up the flower beds, we're 100% OK with that.  This one had a head start on the others but we're definitely happy with this plant in the flowerbeds.  There WILL be more in our future planning.

I stopped at Home Depot and bought some more landscape timbers for some Fall projects. I carried them from the car with the cart and dumped them here but I didn't leave them all scattered about. I stacked them up but just forgot to take a picture.  2nd Man saw the picture and said "you did NOT leave them like that did you?", ha.

Meanwhile, back at the apartment, 2nd Man made a couple of bacon wrapped meatloaves.  We had some for dinner last night...

...and again today as sandwiches.  You can probably see that he loads them up with minced vegetables (carrots, celery, onion, and green pepper) so it's a complete meal.  Right?  Right!  LOL!

We always make two since you have to dirty up the same number of utensils (other than an extra sheet pan) and the second one we slice up, vacuum seal and freeze for a few future meals.

Hope you all are having a good weekend!

HUH?  More on THIS, tomorrow...

  1. If you hadn't already; I would suggest you take Brisbane to the vet and have him checked over.
    Your lantana is so pretty and growing fast; just be careful so it doesn't take over your porch area if you know what I mean :} What; No sliced peppers on top? :}

2nd Man; Your Meatloaf looks Delicious especially it being loaded up with them veggies.

Another continuous flower bed. Your front porch area is going to be so pretty.
Sticking in a few pansies and / or mum plants for Fall / winter will also add some extra color in front.
    Ha; looks like you have a neighbor's get-away cow who come to visit. As they say; the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence; or in your case, your yard. :}

Enjoy your day and have a great evening

    1. Yep, he took him yesterday, they think he has some constipation issues, gave us some laxative. He's feeling better this afternoon, but we're supposed to keep an eye on him and let them know how he is tomorrow. 2nd Man is working from home to stay with him.

Yep, he loads them up with veggies, that's for sure. Peppers would actually be good.

I think the side flowerbed might be gravel and some beaches. We'll see. I was thinking some potted plants scattered in like that picture I posted once too. We'll see, waiting for cooler weather it's just so hot still. Ugh.

Yep, cow update tomorrow! You're spot on!

    1. Thank you, he seems better now. We're watching him. And no meatloaf? Why that's unconscionable, ha. I understand, just teasing.

  3. Brisbane look very youthful for 17!!!!!! I m sure it may just be the seasonal change. That meatloaf looks delish and I do the same. On weekend where I have time, I make several dishes or soups and freeze many for future meals. But minus the bacon. My heart and arteries are hurting just looking at all that bacon.

    1. LOL, yep, our cats seem to live long happy lives. Sydney was 19 when we had to make that tough decision . Well thankfully we didn't eat it all at once, ha. But the bacon sure is good.

  4. I always put lots of bell pepper in my meatloaf. If I accidentally start a meat loaf with no bell pepper, it is just not the same. I do put lots of onion, too. The carrot and celery might be a good addition to my meatloaf. I have that on the menu this week.

I love it when the grass growth slows so the grass does not need mowing every four days! My grass/weeds needs to be mowed most of the winter.

Love the cow! I hope constipation is not a blockage.

      Thank you.

Will keep everyone updated on him.

    1. As I type this he seems better. He ate his dinner and has more pep in his step. He also, shall we say, used the letterbox a few times today after not using it Friday night through yesterday. Gosh, they do have a way of drawing us in don't they? Thanks for the kind words!!

    2. Your recipe is fabulous. I think it is my favorite of all pesto recipes. Also if you make lots of pesto, Costco sells large or 2 pound containers or Parmesan Regisno cheese. I used half of my container of cheese to make my last batch along with half a bottle of their olive oil. I cannot imagine how much it would cost to purchase 19 cups of store bought pesto.

  7. I'm sorry about your sick kitty. I hate to see animals suffer.

Your last photo would make a wonderful jigsaw puzzle. I love it!

    1. Thank you, he's getting better, fingers crossed.

I never thought about that with the photo, that would be a tough one huh? Hmm, there are online places that turn pics into puzzles aren't there? That might be fun to have at the farm. Thanks for that!!!!

  8. Awwww, poor kitty; no fun being sick. Get well soon, Brisbane. I love your lantanas. I could grow them in Sacramento, but now that we live where it freezes, they get frost killed deader than a doornail.

    1. Thank you. Fingers crossed that he's getting better now.

Lantanas are pretty for sure. We do get some frost but this one survived last year, hoping the others do too.

  9. I'm glad that Brisbane is doing better after his visit to the vet. I was so concerned when I first saw his picture. I have old kitties also - one is 18 and the other is 19. So far, they are still doing alright.
Your lantana is beautiful. It does really well in this area. And butterflies love to visit them.
That meatloaf looks delicious! My compliments to the Cook-2nd Man! I agree, all those veggies does make it a complete meal - really.

    1. He was NOT happy, ha, but he made it there and back. Our Sydney was 19. We're hoping a few more years. Hobart is 10 so we have awhile longer (knock on wood) with him too.

Oh my gosh I should have mentioned that about the lantana, it was covered in butterflies. They do love it. And after I watered and splashed water on it, seems like they were even happier.

Thanks I'll let 2nd Man know about the meatloaf, ha
