FLOWER STATION INSPIRATION THURSDAY

Every Thursday we like to post a picture of something we've found online that inspires us to do something similar at the farm. Sort of our own blog bulletin board so that we can eventually look back and someday, hopefully anyway, recreate it...enjoy!

Last week (and in past posts) we've written about growing flowers in a cutting garden.  I saw this online once when looking at potting benches.  I was thinking of doing something like this on the porch or a future deck, so it would be in the shade, but instead of using it to pot up things, I think it would be a great place to trim flowers and greenery, cut them to length, get them in vases, etc before taking them inside to enjoy.  Just a random thought.

Does that even have a name?  A flower prepping table?  Arranging station?

Be inspired!

  1. go to Goodwill / thrift store, garage sale and get you an old dresser or even an old baby changing table and use as your flower cutting table. (think outside the box upcycling something old into something totally different. Many possibilities out there on what can be used as a flower cutting table / bench.

You could make a nice cutting table on the cheap but I would put an opening on one end to insert an old dishpan or set a trash can underneath to catch all your trimmings / cuttings.
When cutting fresh flowers; use a good cutter and store in drawer in your cutting table. Clean each time with rubbing alcohol and cut the cut flower stems at an angle.

    1. Great links!!! Love it. Thanks!! This would be on the porch so I could keep tools and stuff out there. Of course I could put something out there by the flower beds in the garden. Sort of a veggie bench/flower bench. Thank you!

  2. That is so pretty and cottagey! As Colleen said, you can find old pieces of furniture for cheap - you might even find something at that large-trash-place at your apartment.

    1. Yep, that's a great idea. I have never seen anything that nice here at the apartment but rest assure I'll be keeping my eyes open ha. I'll just think "cottage-y" in my head. ha.

  3. I love the idea of handling and trimming the flowers before coming indoors. I do that. Also, beyond flowers, I used a table out in the yard to get corn ready for the pot since husking and getting all the silk off is a messy proposition in the kitchen. Besides, I don't want flower stems down the drain in the kitchen sink. I have even washed sweet potatoes full of dirt outdoors. Your picture setup is so much nicer.

    1. OOH an outdoor table for corn and other veggie prep. Thanks for that idea. It's funny I always figured it would just be easier to make a mess outside, ha.

  4. I think it's just a potting table. Kind of the way your kitchen table is all-purpose and doesn't go by specific names.

It's not an eating table, a game table, a bill-paying table, a homework table, or a junk-collection table. Just a kitchen table.

    1. LOL we can relate to the kitchen table conundrum. It's sometimes any horizontal surface, ha. A potting table can be whatever it is. Thank you!
