GARDEN STOOL TRASH TO TREASURE

Regular readers know that I have a favorite place to look for bargains...our downstairs trash area!  Our building has trash chutes on every floor and they feed into a separate room, but for boxes and other things that people can't put in the chute, there is an area (indoor) near the loading dock where people can put the things they don't want.

I've found several cool items so far.
Here is the latest!

I found this stool.  It's very heavy and solidly built.  The legs are heavily welded and are powder coated.

When I flip it over, there are just four simple screws holding on the padded top section.  It is just generic vinyl that looks like leather.

Instead of using this inside, I want to use it outside, mainly in the garden for sitting on while pulling weeds, planting seeds, digging holes etc in the raised beds.  I know you can buy some garden rolling seats like that.  I've actually had one of those in the past.  The rolling part didn't work because it was just too difficult to move.  Perhaps on concrete for sure but with the uneven weedblock covered ground didn't work. Having something small that I can pick up and carry and put back down, this will be perfect.

I'll definitely redo the padded seat with something more "outdoor ready".  Some Sunbrella fabric for the top, maybe they make an outdoor cushion to put under the fabric, the rest would be fine as is.  The powder coated metal is rustproof.  Just need to source the materials.

Then I can have a small and movable place to sit while gardening.

  1. perfect little seat to sit on in your garden area. Nice that the bottom of the legs have plugs in them to keep the dirt, ants, etc from getting inside the legs and would sit better on the landscape fabric as well. I do like the looks of the hammered spray paint that someone had put on. Perfect for an outside seat.
That faux leather would work for outside. I would change it until it starts to crack and peel but in the meantime I would leave as is unless you would want to change the color.
For other material go to thrift stores cause many a time you can find old plastic table cloths or other weather proof fabric to put on.
The also sell spray that you can spray onto the seat that will repel water. Same stuff that they use to spray on tents, cloth umbrellas, canopies, etc and can also use the same spray to spray your shoes to make them waterproof as well, etc.
Check at Wall-Mart for outdoor fabric as well or a JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby stores as sometimes they will have remnants of fabric.

    1. If you can find some green and yellow fabric to match up with your Zen machine :) Well, it was just a thought. :)
Be careful in getting yellow; wasps are attracted to yellow, Hummingbirds go for mostly red color

  3. You do a great job with the finds! When I try to sit on a chair with legs in the yard, the legs sink! But, maybe the plastic will hold. I was sitting down in my outdoor chairs and discovered when it said "patio" chairs, they did not mean "dirt" chairs...lol. Maybe you have harder ground!

  4. (Thursday)
Received a nice shower of rain yesterday; was more than enough rain fall from the house & shed roof to fill all of my stock tanks. Now have another 400 gal. of free water to use.

  5. You may want to consider redoing the seat as wood. You could have a cutout in the center for a handle to easily pick it up. I have a few old small benches that have a handy cutout to carry / move them. A nice piece of teak wood mixed with the metal would be pretty and long lasting weather-wise.
