CEREAL TEXTURE FOOD DEBATE

It's time for the "Friday Food Debate" where we tackle some of the burning questions of the culinary world...LOL!

This week, the burning question is:

So here is this week's debate.  There are two schools of thought on cereal.  Some people like it crunchy like it is right after you pour the milk in it, you eat it quickly so it stays crispy and crunchy.

Still others like to pour the milk in and let it sit for a few minutes so that the cereal starts to get soggy and the milk takes on the flavor of the cereal.  Great for drinking after the cereal is gone!

Around here I think we are split again but I could actually go either way.  I love how crispy it is when it's first poured but in the end, I like it soggy and that delicious milk that's left over.  2nd Man wants it to stay as crunchy and crispy as long as possible.

So...are you team crispy or team soggy?

  1. Team soggy. Have always liked it soggy. People think it's disgusting, but I have been known to pour milk on my cereal and walk away for 10 minutes or so before digging in. What can I say. I like mush.

  2. I like it just beginning to soften not too soggy not too crunchy. The exception is Grape nuts a favorite cereal but I can only eat when no one is in the house too noise, hahaha

  3. Honestly, I don't eat much cereal but the kind that I do eat, I eat it right from the box.....dry

  4. Definitely crunchy. I put milk in the bowl and add small bits of cereal for a bite or two and repeat until the milk is gone. My son gave me a special bowl several years ago that had 2 levels. The bottom was for the milk and the offset top was for the dry cereal so you could add dry cereal as you went along. It worked fine, but was huge to store in the cabinet and couldn't be stacked so I no longer have it. It was one of those specialty items from Brookstone.

  5. Crunchy. Since I'm lactose intolerant, no milk. Sometimes with a bit of orange juice (I know, weird - but creative!) but still crunchy. So like Colleen and Anne Marie, most of the time it's dry.

  6. Either way for me. I like the crunch and the mush.

  7. That type of cereal has no food value and is utterly boring. For "regularity" switch to bran pellets which don't go soggy and are very good with fruit. Roderick

  8. It depends on the cereal. Some are better soggy and some are better crunchy. The next debate ought to be how do you like your oatmeal. Because my husband I are exact opposites on that.

  9. I eat my bowlful of granola dry. Corn flakes with ice cold milk eaten immediately before the crunch goes away.

  10. Crunchy...when the crunch goes away, wait a bit, then use my teeth as a strainer to get the nice flavoured milk...the dogs get the soggy cereal lol! :)

  11. Crunchy. But I must stir the flakes/bits around until everything has been dunked in milk before I can start eating it. The stuff at the end is usually soggy, but I have to eat it all before I can spoon up the milk.

Whole milk is best for cereal. Skim milk just makes the Baby Jesus cry. You may as well use water if you're going to pour skim milk on your cereal.
