It's time for the "Friday Food Debate" where we tackle some of the burning questions of the culinary world...LOL!
This week, the burning question is:
So a very dear coworker came up with this one. We were talking about crackers and the subject of soup came up. Come to find out, she hates crackers crushed up and IN the soup, she prefers to eat them on the side, dipping into the soup. I love them crushed up and added right into the soup.
We never thought about it but apparently that is a debate that many have. Some people like soup that you crush up a handful of crackers and scatter them over the top. Still others like to enjoy their soup with the crackers as an accent on the side to enjoy eating along with spoonfuls of soup.
So...what do you do with your crackers when you eat your soup?

Crushed
ReplyDeleteUnless it's Chili (which isn't a soup, but it's in a bowl) Then crackers on the side
Crackers on the Side. There are times; depending on what kind of soup that I will add oyster crackers just on top of my soup.
ReplyDeleteNow depending on what kind of soup I make, sometimes I will have cornbread on the side in place of crackers.
Sometimes I will add a little cheese on top of my soup, or just a few crushes Fritos for sprinkle on top.
I guess, getting right down to it, it all depends on what kind I soup I make and how I feel that day on what to have to go with my soup; sometimes no crackers at all.
My husband likes his crackers crushed up and added to his bowl of soup. I myself would rather have a sandwich on the side like ham and swiss on rye or a nicely melted hot grilled cheese sandwich with a thick tomato soup.
ReplyDeleteCrush up those crackers and make a thick mush like mix. Especially Chicken Noodle.
ReplyDeleteI use mine to scoop the goodies out and eat on the cracker. Then when I'm down to broth, I crush them in and make a mush
ReplyDeleteCrushed cracker or oyster crackers, but I don't like to mix them and make mush. I like them floating on the soup or chili so I can get a crunchy bite along with the soupy stuff.
ReplyDeleteInteresting one...I like mine broken up, not crushed, not whole...and they need to be VERY soggy before I like them! :) Especially Ritz crackers in tomato soup! :)
ReplyDeleteNo crackers, they're just filler. If I need it I would rather have a little more soup!
ReplyDeleteI mostly don't have crackers with my soup. I love soup in the fall and winter and make lots of different kinds. Since I only have them part of the year, I like to savor their delicious tastes without altering them with crackers. If I do want a little crunch, they needed to be broken, not crushed, and eaten while still crunchy.
ReplyDeletecrackers whole on the side. I will confess to dropping croutons into tomato basil soup or lobster bisque.
ReplyDeleteWhole crackers with butter on them to eat with soup, stew or chili.
ReplyDeletewe dont have crackers with soup in the UK, we have rolls or just pain old sliced bread. if we are fancy we may have croutons
ReplyDeleteI have only eaten saltines and tomato soup. I want to break one cracker in the bowl, dip each piece out with a spoon of soup and continue with the crackers. I have not had tomato soup in years, but with any other soup, I do not like crackers. No crushing, though.
ReplyDeleteHusband always has to have crackers with soup and he crushes them up in the soup. I eat the crackers while sipping soup and sometimes dip.
ReplyDeleteI use Club crackers not saltines and, if I have some ... a schmer of cream cheese on the crackers! That goes with any flavor of soup!
ReplyDeleteCrackers with butter on them, NO mush in my soup!
ReplyDeleteDepending on what soup, crushed it's good. Tomatoe soup floating on top whole. Ritz crackers are the best!
ReplyDeleteAnd as usual, I'm the odd-ball-out ... I butter one cracker, place the 2nd cracker on top and drop into the soup .... then using the spoon, crack the stacked crackers in half eating one half in each spoonful of soup.
ReplyDeleteCrushed saltines as a child, because kids love to play with their food. Oyster crackers were a treat and never crushed but sunk individually like little battleships in The Great Chicken Noodle Soup War (we had vivid imaginations, what can I say).
ReplyDeleteAs an adult? No crackers. Too many carbs. Sigh.
