ALLERGIES SUMMER COLD OR COVID

Well, I'm sick...

...got sick on Thursday.  Scratchy sore throat, stuffed up nose, sneezing.  I never lost sense of smell or taste but last night I had a fever and chills.  I took medicine/vitamins and slept from 8:30pm last night to 9:00am this morning and today I feel much better.  I wore my mask at home and 2nd Man slept on the couch most of the night.  We also ran the air purifier and sprayed Microban on everything.  So far he's feeling OK.  We also have one those finger monitors that checks your oxygen level and mine rarely dropped below 95.  Pretty sure it wouldn't be COVID this is exactly how I usually get a sinus infection in the Summer.

Remember the carefree days before 2020 when we got sick and thought "oh crap I have a cold" instead of worrying about a deadly pandemic?  I guess we still get colds and we still have allergies and sinus infections from time to time, that hasn't changed.

I checked the forecast this morning and it's hot...

...right now as this posts the "feels like" is 105 at 11:30am.  So, rather than push myself at the farm in this heat, I've decided to stay in town.  I'm trying not to think about the grass and how tall it must be but really I have no choice.  I have to put my health over that and stay in and rest this weekend.

Hope you're having a good weekend!

  1. Your body is telling you that you could use a long rest and not worry about anything. Just take it easy. Not worth being outside working in this heat anyway.

Hope you get to feeling better soon

    2. Thank you. Yeah, this heat would not help anything. And we didn't get a temp drop this far down, ha. I wish..

  2. I have sinus infections that have all the hallmarks of a covid infection. But, so far, no covid. I hate a summer cold.

    1. Yep I understand all too well. Just read an article that sinus infections/summer colds are on the rise now that more people are unmasked. Stay safe.

  3. Take it easy, my friend. Perhaps you'll need antibiotics? Last night my stomach was upset, I ached all over, and all I could think about was getting to bed. I told Sweet Cheeks not to come over. Today I'm fine.

    Love,
    Janie

  5. I am so sorry that you are sick. What a miserable way to spend your weekend. And the heat just makes you feel even worse.
It sounds like you have the same thing I have - a sinus infection. I went to the doctor yesterday and was tested for strep throat, flu, and Covid, which were negative. So they gave me antibiotics for a sinus infection, which are now starting to help.
Get plenty of rest, naps, sleep, and fluids. Maybe an antibiotic. Hoping you feel better soon.

    1. Popsicles and minty iced tea help a sore throat.

  6. Hello..I'm a "lurker" who follows you for many yrs. I am also a retired RN, worked for 40+ yrs.(20 of those in Barnes Jewish Hosp, StLouis)......just want to say this: if you are not feeling a lot better tomorrow, if you still have some fever, chills or lung congestion, call your primary care doc and ask to see him...there is the drug Remdesivir, I believe FDA approved, to reduce recovering time for Covid...get tested. Please, in this time of Covid, don't just "assume or self diagnose".....This drug, when given in early phase of Covid disease can truly speed your recovery. It's up to you...not trying to preach healthcare, but trying to give valid information in case you need it. *God bless for fast recovery

    1. Hi! Thank you for checking in (and thank you for your years of selfless work to help people). I am almost back to 100%. No fever since Friday night, no congestion, have a big appetite and full of energy. I've got a call in to our doctor and will talk to her tomorrow. You do not have to worry about preaching healthcare, we'll take advice from people with experience anytime. Thanks for caring!!!

  8. Husband and I got sick late July with same symptoms. Decided to get tested and thankfully, the results were negative for Covid. Just nasty and miserable Summer colds, but we had peace of mind for having made sure it was not something worse. Urging you to go get tested. It's a quick and efficient process and you'll feel better for having done so. X

    1. Yes, going to chat with our primary care doc. So glad you guys were safe. Yep, pretty sure it's just a nasty summer cold but it would be nice peace of mind. Definitely scary times we are in.

  9. Our next door neighbor has a summer cold/sinus infection. I don't think I've had an actual cold in a decade but I do have constant allergies. Some days they are worse than others but luckily they vary day to day so I don't suffer long

    1. We rarely have a cold, maybe every couple of years but it was nicer this last year and a half because we went so long without getting anything. This seems to just be one of those (but will check with doctor) so hopefully it's just a cold or sinus thing. 2nd Man is still fine so we're good there so far. Thanks, stay safe!

  11. Glad you’re feeling better. We’re sitting in the ER - it’s 1:45am - because my hubby.had significant nausea this evening after we worked several hours in 83 degree heat. He also had some pain in his chest... so here we are. He’s doing fine now but we’re awaiting results of the second heart enzymes test.

I have open heart surgery scheduled for10/11, and we closed on a new farm on 8/6, and are supposed to take posession on 8/20.

Life is just a tad stressful right now!

    1. What??? Oh my gosh!! Sending good vibes your direction for Hubby and of course I had no idea you were having open heart surgery yourself? Will send good vibes to you to. Please come back before to remind us and after to let us know how you're doing. Hang in there, you will both get through this and be stronger on the other side.

Big hugs to both of you from both of us!
