So this weekend, I was outside in the beautiful weather and decided to check out the well shed. I opened the door and looked inside. Mostly clear, a few crickets hopped around and then I saw these two.
I took a picture from up high...see them there? Here, let me get closer...
This was the first one. Sorry, this one is a bit blurry, I was in the dark, with an LED light, trying to keep my hand steady enough to take a picture. It might be hard to make out the mark on the abdomen.
But in this next one, it will become clear what they were...
BLACK WIDOWS!!
Yikes! The well house is the perfect spot of course, dark, no one going in and out all the time, humid. Spiders love that. There are also some Daddy Longlegs in there, but those won't cause harm to you, ha.
I took the Stem spray (for spiders) and dispatched them quickly. We can't have dangerous spiders in a spot we (and technicians/repair people) have to go into to check/adjust things.
We just have to be careful!
OH my, that Not good but yet at the same time you can trap them in a glass jar and move them to another area far from your house, etc. They do help control other insets , etc. (sent U an email)
ReplyDeleteDo be careful when going into your other sheds. Have a spray bottle mixed with peppermint and / or lemon oil with you at all times. Mice, spiders along with other creepy critters don't like the smell of the oils.
Enjoy your day and do be careful of them crawling insets.
I don't like spiders mostly because I don't know which ones are dangerous just by looking at them
ReplyDeleteYikes! Black Widows or the Brown Recluse ... both are bad ... don't want you messing with those buggers!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are armed with a good solution to that problem!
Yikes is right. We get black widows in our wood chip mulch, so I never handle it without wearing gloves. They are about the only spiders around here we dispatch ASAP.
ReplyDeleteDouble yikes! Not what you want to find, especially in a small space. You might research some deterrents to keep them away - natural, chemical or electronic. I read that cedar chips deter them, so you could try that around the outside of the well house.
