We always like to ask this as it's fun to hear from readers when they have traditionally opened presents.
Christmas Eve?
or
Christmas Morning?
2nd Man and I grew up with different traditions. For me, it was always Christmas Eve. We'd have dinner and then open presents after. But there were always a few presents for Christmas Morning when I was younger and Santa came.
2nd Man grew up with dinner Christmas Eve, then church, go to bed, and then wake up for Santa.
Now, he and I usually open one present Christmas Eve and then the rest Christmas morning with breakfast.
How about you?
Growing up, it was always Christmas morning! When the kids were little and still at home, it was always Christmas morning, too!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Christmas morning!
ReplyDeleteChristmas morning was always our tradition too. The earlier the better when we were kids! It still is, although now that my kids are grown and married, we sometimes have our get-togethers on different days depending on everybody's schedules and open presents then.
ReplyDeleteAll my life, presents were opened on Christmas morning. Santa gifts were never wrapped.
ReplyDeleteAs a kid, we always opened presents on Christmas Eve after a great evening meal. Christmas Day was church and a big family dinner at grandma’s house.
ReplyDeleteI think the custom of opening presents on Christmas Eve originated in Germany and Central European countries. This tradition is continued here by many with that heritage.
Christmas morning because Santa came at night while you were asleep!
ReplyDeleteGrowing up we opened gifts around 4 to 6 p,m, Christmas day. Dad always worked on Xmas day . Mom allowed us to open the littliest gift when we got up. Then we spent the rest of the day checking gifts and trying to guess what was in them. Around about 2;30 in the afternoon , us kids (at least 6 or 7 of us 10) would be sent to the corner store for our order of ice cream. With our kids it was Xmas Eve for the X's gifts and morning for ours. Merry Christmas to you both, Love reading your blog. Barb in Canada
ReplyDeleteChristmas Eve here. When I was little and still believed there was a Santa, my dad would take me for a ride to the market to get milk or something that they had "forgot" and when we got back, Santa had come and gone.
ReplyDeleteI still believe in Santa, just in a different way. We have a local parents club here in our local elementary school that collects toys for distribution on Christmas, and I always donate, with the help of our local hardware store, 4 bicycles for them to give away. It is totally anonymous on my part, only me and the hardware store guy knows who donates them. I believe that every kid should have at least one Christmas to remember when they got something really nice.
My husband and I start opening presents from the 21st, Winter Solstice which is the beginning of The Yuletide Season. One present every day for 12 days until Jan 1st which is the last day. It's a sweet little custom we adopted and it makes our Christmas nicer because we only give what the other truly needs or wants, like warm fuzzy woolen socks or art supplies.
ReplyDeleteA visit with my sister and we open her gifts Christmas Eve. We open the ones from our househols Christmas morning and open In Law gift Christmas Day.
