Well, in our newly acquired hobby of birdwatching, we are now seeing a lot of quail coming to visit.
Saw these in the back yard. At first we were like "what are those birds?" and then I looked and told 2nd Man "I think those are quail". I went out there and zoomed in to get a closer up picture...

The color is a bit off than what they were. They were more of a brown color, but it was early in the day and they had moved over to a shaded area but sure enough, we have quail.

Here is a great photo of the common quail in our part of Texas, it is called the Northern Bobwhite quail. It was fun to watch them.
We would love to attract more of them to our property. From what we've read, they are mostly a ground dwelling type of bird.
Anyone have any quail advice?

Quail love brush piles to live in and hide in. The more brush piles you have around, the more quail you might have. We have one big pile and there is always 20-30 quail in and about the pile. Lots of fun to watch. If you look closely, when there is a flock around, there is always one up high somewhere keeping watch over them.
ReplyDeleteI have no quail advice, but they are great fun to watch when they are scurrying around.
ReplyDeleteQuail are so cute with their little top knot bobbing, and the babies in a line behind the Mom and Dad! Hopefully, the cats will leave the birds alone!
ReplyDeleteWe like the frozen ones at HEB!! 🤣
ReplyDeleteI love quail also. When I lived in the country, we would love listening to their calls of “Bob White.”
ReplyDeleteI remember one year we would pick up discarded Christmas trees that people would put out after Christmas; either along the curb or from the Home Depot dumpsters where people could drop off their trees; bring some home and make a nice pile for the doves and quail and even a bunny or 2 sometimes.
ReplyDeletePiled up brush does make good protection for the wild life.
Enjoy the rest of the week and stay warm. We are to have freezing temperatures here come early Mon. morning.
Wishing you both the very best today and all the tomorrows.
