BLUE AND WHITE A COLLECTION

We don't have a large collection of it, but since the master bedroom at the farm is decorated in blue and white, we've become fond of blue and white items like these to display in the room.  Mostly we'd like to fill up this set of corner shelves, which by the way, was a streetside find when we lived at the house in town).

Anyway, some of these items were gifts from friends of the farm and a couple were thrift store finds.  It just makes for a nice focal point in the corner of the room (and gives us something fun to collect, ha).

This large, Chinese style ceramic planter was actually an apartment trash to treasure find that I just realized while writing this that I forgot to post about that when I found it.  It's sitting on a wooden stool that I painted blue a few years back and it's in another corner of the room.  There is a cool object in it that is a project I'm working on.  Will show that to you when it's finished, if I can figure out what I ultimately want it to look like.

It's really the only place in the house that we have blue and white like this.  We've never collected the flow blue in the dining room/kitchen, it's just a collection for this room because we like the colors there.

MILK GLASS A COLLECTION

We like to collect things.  Thought it would be nice to occasionally have a post about something we collect.  So to start it out, we have this...

One thing we've had an affinity for is white milk glass.  It's not particularly valuable so that makes it affordable and usually easy to find.  We have these bud vases and planters and some larger vases (in another spot that we use in a different way, we'll share that later).  There are two shelves full of these.  We have about 30+ pieces.

That's just enough that when I see them now I go "oh we already have that one".  It's hard to find new ones but I still look on occasion.  I think most of them have been found and thrift stores and a few were given to us by friends who knew we liked them and those always hold a special place.  I used to put all the bud vases in the middle of the table with carnations in them, so pretty and colorful.  The white contrasts nicely with the colors of the flowers. 

It's fun to collect things.  I always said I got the collecting gene from my Grandmother who gave it to my Mom who gave it to me, ha. Grandma used to find something she liked, say, cat figurines for example.  Then she'd just start finding them everywhere until she filled up a bookcase with them.  My Mom loved panda bears and was able to decorate a whole guest room in a panda theme.  So here I am.

With 30+ pieces of milk glass, ha.

BLUE AND WHITE COLLECTION

We had this stand that I picked up somewhere once upon a time.  It was brown and I spray painted it white a couple years back.  I still wasn't sure what to do with it but when organizing things a few weekends back, I ended up putting it in the corner of the master bedroom.  We decided to use it for the blue and white pieces we've collected over the last couple of years.  

Most of these have actually been given to us by special friends (a few of you out there!).  It made for a nice way to display them because they mean something.

We have a great little piggy bank.  The star shaped box actually opens and is filled with wax and a wick.  Then there is a pair of candlesticks of course, a candle holder that you can carry around, and one of our favorites, an egg shaped container to put small items in.  Since the bedroom is decorated in blue and white, this seemed the perfect place for it...and it seems everyone has an unused corner in a room that something like this could fit in.  

It might look a little empty now, but the best thing is, we have room for more!

OUR JADEITE COLLECTION

 At the house in town, we had these original, built in cabinets on each side of the dining room.  They separated the living room from the dining room.  You might have seen them in the post about the last photos of the house.

Since we have a kitchen full of cabinets for our regular dishware, we used the built-ins for jadeite (also spelled jadite) green glass pieces that we've collected over the years....

Here is one side.  Our collection is a mixture of both new (reproduction) and vintage pieces.  Some (the plates and coffee cups) were from my Grandmother's house, others my Mom collected and some we bought.

And here is the cabinet on the other side.  We have just always loved the color and it was easy to find them over the years and pick up a few here and there.  It's not a lot of pieces, in fact some is just spread out to fill up the shelves (nesting bowls for example) so we don't need a lot of storage space for them.

Our issue though is that we don't have room to display all of this at the apartment.  We decided to box them up and take them to the farm.  Of course, where we put them once they are there is another story.

We don't have any furniture that we could use as it is all being used for other items.  There is also no room for new furniture at the farm.  So we're leaning toward something like this...shelves above the kitchen doors and/or possibly the window. Since our walls are white, it might be a nice pop of color.  

Another project.  
For now, they are safely boxed up.
