THE GREAT SPIDER SCARE OF 2018

OK.  So this happened...

I was at the farm and was sitting in the rocking chair taking a break.  I saw a spider near my foot (I was wearing my work boots).  I moved my foot and it reared up on its legs and held up more legs in front.

Bold little thing.

I stopped moving my foot and it started walking toward me again.  I moved and it reared back again. I started to stand up and it literally ran toward me and the rocker and jumped up on the seat where I had been sitting moments before.  It then ran really fast up the side arm of the chair and seemed to be after ME.  When I stopped, it stopped.  I pulled my phone out of my shirt pocket to try and get pics.

It got to the top and then proceeded to run across the top rail of the rocker...

It kept turning toward me and then would move to get to a higher spot.

This was the last picture I got of the spider because as I was standing there to take this one...

THE DAMN THING JUMPED STRAIGHT UP IN THE AIR AND FLEW AT ME LIKE AN ATTACK SPIDER.

I screamed gasped freaked out almost dropped the phone.  I hit the rocker and broke off one of the slats in my escape.  The spider bounced off the phone and repelled down via a web back to the porch and then hurried back to the rocker.

OH HELL NO.

I decided it was live or die, me against the spider and in the end there could be only one...

I tried to chase it.
It jumped.
It chased me.
I jumped.

A couple of things were overturned on the porch before it all came to an end...as the spider jumped off the porch into the abyss of the flowerbed.

We both lived to fight another day.

Except I don't want to go through that again. I'll admit, that little spider scared the crap out of me.

When I got back into town, I regaled 2nd Man with the story.  He just shook his head and said "great, just great..."

  4. We have jumping spiders and they scare the hell out of me when they jump. I am sorry for the rocker. It seems to be the loser in the man vs. beast contest (and yes I am laughing a little bit)

  5. I had to Google this spider. I've never heard of one being so aggressive toward a person. It's no surprise that one of its common names is Bold Jumper! I saw the blue-green color in the last picture and wondered what that could be. It actually has iridescent blue or green fangs. It is a beautiful spider. I'm glad you didn't break your phone.

  6. GOOD LORD! That's absolutely horrifying. The stuff my nightmares are made of. There would have one answer, and one answer only, for me.
    Sell the farm.

  9. ROFL!! Im sorry, I'm not laughing at you, well, maybe just a little. lol It's just the vision of you and that spider fighting is just hilarious. And just an FYI, spiders scare me to death so I would have been running instead of fighting him off. lol Great story. Glad you both lived to fight another day.

  10. I have seen these spiders my whole life and have never encountered this behavior. They have always run away. I love spiders but not as close as this one was to you. Weird how it was so aggressive. So I googled and saw that these spiders can be territorial in their hunting ground. So maybe your rocking chair was his headquarters! I’m so glad that you both survived!
