CERAMIC EGG TRAY CARTON, OUR NEW FAVORITE THING

Here is something we got recently.  We ordered two of them.  With all the fresh eggs that 2nd Family gives us at the farm (when the hens are laying), we wanted something more durable, something that is easy to clean, and something lets us take the eggs and easily carry them to the counter in the kitchen (the fridge is out in the mudroom).  Another benefit is that, quite frankly, they are kind of stylish (hey we can be in the country and have style, right?).  I have seen them in various shapes and configurations, but having one that holds a dozen was the best choice for us and we liked this one as it looks like an egg carton.  Here is the link to where we found it:

These will keep the eggs in the fridge, safe from bumping around and take up the least footprint of space.

Here is one that seems to be the other popular style,

it's called the Kikkerland Ceramic Egg Rack.  This one is glazed ceramic as well and holds a dozen.

They even have the one above, BIA Cordon Bleu Egg Tray - 6, another ceramic glazed tray that holds half a dozen eggs.

We decided on the first of course, but they are all pretty neat and all would look great in any kitchen.

    1. You know after i posted that link to Amazon, the prices went up on that link. We paid $7 each. Or maybe it was from a different reseller, ha. We almost got the kikkerland one but our fridge is a bit small and the longer narrow one fit better.

  2. Hello. I just got an email from From Scratch on-line magazine with lots of cool vintage garden posters I thought you'd like. And I tried to email you from your site but I can't. If you want me to forward these, email me @ outbackfarm@gmail.com. You might already be getting this magazine. If so, disregard this.

    Nice egg trays too.

  3. I recently saw one shaped like a spiral slide, so you are always reaching for the oldest egg first. If it was in my budget I'd be buying one, instead of using a shallow muffin tin where I have to keep shifting eggs forward to add others. Not that it's a huge issue, given that none of the eggs is ever more than a few days old!

    1. I saw those! They were really neat but we don't have enough free counter space for that, ha. Go to google and search for "spiral egg holder". Here is a link to AmazonUK but I couldn't find it on the AmazonUS website. It's pretty cool. Is this the one you saw Quinn??

  4. I've seen some in town at the International Pantry but refuse to pay $40.00 for one. I would rather pay the prize Jaz paid above!

    1. Check around on amazon or some of the cooking websites. We got ours for $7 each and then I think it was a free shipping special. Just keep checking around. I'm all about the deal too, LOL!

  5. Hi...I wanted one of these for the longest but wouldn't pay the asking price as it was pretty high. SO happy to be able to find more sources at reasonable prices now. I got my two when I got my chooks last year and I love them.

Incidently, I also learned that it is not necessary to refrigerate unwashed fresh eggs as the hens provide a covering for the egg called "bloom" during the laying process that prevents bacteria from getting in and spoiling the egg for up to a couple months. In the UK and Europe they do not refrigerate eggs in the grocery store.

    HUZZAH!

    1. See my comment above, we found them o sale. I think Amazon has other sellers that have sales. Plus some cooking websites. I have heard of that 'bloom', that's fascinating. Thanks for sharing!!

  6. That is neat. maybe I will get one of those for the counter. Fresh eggs do not have to be refrigerated.

    1. I like them (any of the ceramic ones really) because they are durable and still look nice sitting on the counter. I've heard that about fresh eggs. If you DO refrigerate fresh eggs is that a problem? Do you know?

  7. Everyone I know saves me egg cartons--I finally had to say "Please--don't give me styrofoam" !! But now I always have a nice stack of cardboard egg cartons on the shelf. I lose a lot when I give away eggs from time to time, but they are always replaced. (I do like the look of the ceramic ones tho...just trying not to buy things I don't NEED. lol

    Happy end of January, boys...

    1. We always save egg cartons for 2nd Family who shares their eggs with us, and when we DO have to buy eggs, we stay away from the foam as well. Speaking of, being Winter and they aren't laying at the moment, I've got a stack of cardboard cartons I need to bring to them. Thanks for the reminder!!

Happy beginning of February sweet lady!! :-)
