WHAT LIES BENEATH

Mystery hole dug under building
2nd Family tells me this COULD be the result of one of their dogs that chased an animal under a shed on our property.  OR it could be one of any number of animals, none of which I'd like to encounter face to face, or face to snout or face to beak or face to rabid foaming razor sharp teeth filled mouth.

it's too big to be a mouse or a rat, so I'm guessing skunk or raccoon or opossum or something else.

Yeah, 2nd Family's dog, that's what I choose to believe.

    1. Not that I know of, at least not in our part of the state.

  2. Looks like a typical Bayou Gater hole to me, my friend! No other choice but to shove your hand in there, root around a bit, and figure it all out in the end. ;)

    1. Yeah, I'd figure it out in the end, with a gator on my backside. How fast can I run? LOL!!! Thanks Cloud, now I'll NEVER go near that hole!

    1. LOL! So if I was leaned over looking into the hole, you'd be the one that comes up and goes "BOO!" right?

  4. I'm guessing groundhog/woodchuck as well. Any of your veggie or herbs missing? :)

    1. No missing veggies (what's left of them) or herbs. This is on the other side of the property but I'll definitely keep my eyes open.

  5. Hope you see it sneaking in and out one of these days, but I am with you, just think the 2nd Family's dog is trying to get something out of there. Maybe he buried a bone under there before the shed was built and now he wants it back. If you do find out please end the suspense and let us know.

    1. I will definitely keep everyone posted. I really want to kneel down and shine a flashlight in there but I'll admit, I'm too scared, ha.

  6. We would set up a trail cam to see what is coming and going. But you can also sprinkle flour around the hole to see the footprints of whatever critter is hanging out there. Good luck!

    1. I've always wanted one of those trail cams. Hmm....

I love the idea of flour. I almost did that yesterday when I was out there but with the rain coming I didn't want to have it washed away. Next time! Great idea, thanks!!!!

  7. Easy enough to figure out. Go get the 2nd Family's dog and bring him over. If he starts going nuts. It's not his hole. And well, then you have to pick a name for your new critter. I kinda like the sound of the name, Bitey.

  8. It sounds and looks like a groundhog. I put sticks over the holes and see if something moves them. I used a hole by a fence for compost since there was always a hole there. It was always burrowed from the inside. It was a ground hog. I tried to annoy him into moving.

    1. Oooh, sticks are a good idea too. Of course, putting my hands down there near the opening makes me a big nervous, ha.

  9. I've only recently started reading your blog but aren't you guys in Texas somewhere? I live in north central Texas and that surely does look like an armadillo hole to me.
They burrow under anthing with a cover, sheds, cars that don't run being used as yard art. :)
We've got several generations of armadillos living on our property. The babies are seriously cute. Plus they eat grub worms.

  13. never fun when you discover one of those! :) For us, anytime we see a hole that size it's either a woodchuck {groundhog} or a Fisher cat.

    1. A fisher cat? I had to google that. Holy cow. That would scare me to death too.

  14. I'm guessing armadillo- if you see a bunch of snuffed up places around the hole- that be him.

    1. I want to fill it in but I'm afraid I might hurt whatever is in there. I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and get down there and look. That's all part of having property, right? Ha. Yes, I think lots of snakes like dark holes like that. I will see what I can do. :-)
