TRADER JOES CANDLES

We have recently found the perfect tapered candles.  Now we know of course, that not everyone has a Trader Joe's nearby but if you do, or know someone near one, these come very highly recommended.  They are usually only available at this time of year.

Trader Joe's candles
They are simply called..."EIGHT CANDLES".  As the name implies, it is a package of eight candles, these being a cream color (they also have white).  They are dripless and self-extinguishing.  We are always doubtful of dripless but imagine our surprise when we lit a few for a dinner recently and they burned about 7 hours without any drips.  We lit them about 6pm and at 1am, they were almost gone...not a single drip in all that time.  Did they self extinguish?  Yep, we actually watched two of them burn down almost to the bottom and then the flames just went out.  Fascinating to say the least.

Side note, NEVER leave a burning candle unattended!

They come from the Czech Republic and the wicks attach them in pairs (simply cut the wicks to the desired length).  Best of all, they are low priced!  These eight candles were less than $3.00 package...or about 35 cents each!

Candles are always nice to have around; they are nice for ambiance, they are great alternatives to electric light, and of course they are great as backup light in an emergency.  That makes them great additions to your box of preps.

  1. I've gone to battery operated candles....no worries with grand kids, oldsters and pets.

    1. Well now that's a good point! We do have a bunch of battery operated tealights that I'm using for a decorating idea. More on that when it comes to fruition, ha.

    1. Great price, cheaper than Ikea candles actually (and that's usually where everyone gets inexpensive candles, ha).

  3. These candles emit toxic fumes, actually. All paraffin and even soy candles emit toxins. Also, many candles manufactured overseas, especially China, still use lead in their wicks even though it is illegal to import. The only candle that does not emit soot and toxins are beeswax. That is why churches use them to protect their statues and fine art. Beeswax candles cost more, but they burn longer than others. They smell of honey and emit negative ions that actually clean the air. Now I make my own candles....wish I had a beehive.

    1. Well rain on my parade, LOL, I'm teasing of course. Yes, thank you for that, a lot of people may not realize that. I know that's a downside and I do hate that. We don't have them going often, they'll be more for emergency and occasional ambiance. I did check with TJ's and they don't have lead wicks so we're good there. And scented candles are even worse, as the 'scents' often give off their own toxins.

We have several beeswax candles, I need to add to those. Thanks for the reminder!!

    1. Yes, the wick has something in the end of it (it's a cotton string wick) but it has a lump of wax around it at the bottom that somehow just has it fizzle out. Kinda cool. :-)

  5. That's a great price. I love candles. I don't have a Trader Joe's, but The Hurricane does. Maybe she'll send me some candles for Christmas with the delicious jam she always makes.

    Love,
    Janie

  6. This may be a duplicate comment as I'm not sure what happened to the first one.

I love candles of all kinds but have been using beeswax candles for the burn time as well with the serious help with allergies (a post up a few days ago at www.thebookofbarkley.blogspot.com on the benefit of beeswax)

Thanks for the Amazon review today. I love visiting here, such great advice, and such nice readers.

    1. Nope, you are good, no duplicate. Thank you SO much for stopping by. And yes, no problem with the amazon review, I am sorry I didn't do it after I did the book review. I thought I did and then noticed it was still pending in my account. Everyone, go check out her book, it's great!

Thanks for the post on beeswax. between Tewshooz and you, I'm definitely going to be checking for those more often. Thanks!!

  7. Funny story about dripless candles--I bought dripless candles at a yard sale. On the box was written "Dripless Candles." I used them at Halloween and saw the first drip on a cloth on the table. RATS! They continued to drip for the rest of the night. Finally, I was fascinated and took a picture that won a third prize at the County Fair. After I watched all the dripping, I figured someone stored other candles in the nice, long, skinny box.

    1. Now that is a great story! You're right, someone probably just stored random candles in a different box. How neat though that you won a photography ribbon!?!?! That's so neat! Good job!

  8. I LOVE those candles! Thanks for the reminder - I have a hanging candelabra over the dining room table and use these exclusively - reasonably priced and they don't drip into the food!
