COUNTDOWN TO THANKSGIVING DAY

 Countdown to Thanksgiving is on.

My coworker gave us some more sweet potatoes and so last night I roasted them in the oven, mashed them and vacuum sealed for future use.

We had already used one from our last batch so we're back to what we had plus one, ha.  You can see how we did those HERE.

And then...

...we got our turkey ready for the dry brining process.  We do this every year now.  We love it.  Seasoning and duck fat, 48 hours in the fridge and then butter and roasting in the oven.  More on that when it happens, but you can read about the process HERE.

And now for something, um, odd, for Thanksgiving from an old ad or picture from a cookbook:

We like peas.  We like mushrooms.  We like fruit. We even like what ever "meat" is featured.  But all together in one dish?  This is just not even remotely appetizing.  Not sure whatever the ring of jellied meat is, but yeah, we'll stick with our traditional meal.

  1. What was the crazy obsession with ring molds and Jello in the 60's and 70's? Yuck!

    1. We love Jello in any form, rings, bowls, cubes, but yeah, with you here, not like this, ha.

  4. Yay, more sweet potatoes! What a generous coworker. Did you save one or two for your Thanksgiving dinner?

Jellied meat sounds and looks awful and I’m sure it doesn’t taste any better. That is such a weird combination and totally unappetizing.

    1. We didn't use any for Thanksgiving but we will be using them soon. Yep, these combos are definitely unappetizing.

  5. the jellied meat probably was salmon since the peas and mushroom's are in the middle. Don't know where the peaches fit in though! LOL

  6. That old Thanksgiving jellied meat looks disgusting. Just lost my appetite.

Just hubby and myself this year, so just having a 6 lb. turkey breast; following your recipe using my own seasoning recipe and will be watching the cooking time being it isn't a whole turkey.
Wishing Everyone a Wonderful, safe and Blessed ThanksGiving.
Everyone put on your stretchy pants.
