HATCH CHILE CHOCOLATE BAR

What you say?  Chile?  Chocolate?  Yuck?
AU CONTRAIRE!

This came from one of our grocery store chains in town, "Central Market" which is owned by HEB.  They go Hatch Chile crazy every season and this year they came out with this chocolate bar.  It's wonderful!
Hatch Chile Chocolate Bar

This one is dark chocolate.  It's smooth and creamy.  When you eat it, the first taste is sweet and rich and then as it melts in your mouth, the heat comes.  Kind of a spicy, smokey heat that lingers for a bit and then fades away.  Utterly delicious!  Great way to start the weekend!

    1. Ha, I understand, a lot of people have that reaction. But I took a bar to work and everyone really liked it.

  2. You HAVE to try raw chocolate. Giddy Yoyo is THE best and they do chilli spiked!

    1. Oh, isn't mole wonderful? And it's made with chocolate too so it all fits. Rained (and chilled) in today and probably tomorrow as well. Be warm and dry!

  4. I was going to mention chili mole too Joani! I never would have guessed that chocolate and hot spice would be good together, but after trying chili mole (a friend made it for me), I LOVED it. The chocolate sounds wonderful. I'll have to pick some up next time I hit Central Market! Thanks for sharing 1st man.

    3. It was in an odd place, not with the other chocolates, it was at the end of an aisle, in a hanging rack type thing. I suppose it might have been in with the candy too, I didn't look once I picked it up to see if it was there too. If you don't see it just ask, I'm sure they will find it for you.

  6. The first time I heard of chili chocolate I was intrigued. So eventually I bought some, tried it and thought it was revolting. Then a few years later I had some chili chocolate cake made by a really good chef and all of a sudden I got it. The warmth of the spice after the richness of the chocolate is a really good combination. Although as I learnt, when it's done badly it's really not nice at all. I have very fond memories of a fresh chocolate souffle at the Four Seasons once (not my usual hangout but my roommate was working there and as the final part of training had to stay a night and try all the services and was allowed to bring a friend) and think a chili chocolate version of that would be sublime. Off now to find out what chili mole is since I suspect it's not a small subterranean mammal fried in chili sauce. Hee.

    1. LOL! Mole they are speaking of is pronounced "Mo-LAY". It's made with lots of spices and seasonings and chocolate and chilies and all sorts of goodness. I don't guess I've had bad yet, ha. I think it works when the warmth of the spice is very subtle.

  7. Chili chocolate is divine, if it is done right. Now, as to cat, that is definitely, only cat yoga, as no one else can make that bend as sleep that way. Happy Weekend!! M

    1. Hatch is amazing. We've still got some in our freezer from last year. I didn't get to buy many this year. Wished we lived close enough to run to NM, ha.
