RAIN RAIN GO AWAY COME AGAIN ANOTHER DAY

Wednesday and yesterday were a washout.  Literally.  Parts of our area got as much as 8 inches of rain.  At the farm, we are estimating about 4 inches, on top of the almost 2 inches we got on Sunday.  That's half of foot of rain!

"J" from 2nd Family took these pictures to show us how flooded it was out there and emailed them to me at work.  I was surprised to say the least.

Flooded yard
This is their side yard (next to their own party tree).  It's looking toward the front road.  Lots of standing water.

Flooded yard
And this is their front yard, showing the driveway coming into both our properties on the right and the spot on the left where we often park when we stop to visit them on the way in and out.

Needless to say, it's going to be extremely wet out there this weekend.  It's going to be clear and cool with no more rain, which is good, but "J" said the water has barely gone done.  The yard will certainly be too wet to mow, and most likely too wet for much of any outside work.  It might be a good time to dig some holes for future plants, assuming the area I want to plant in is high and dry.  We'll see what happens.

Friday is here AND it's November 1st!

Tonight we are going to a Dia de los Muertos dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, more on that in a future post.

  1. I think y'all may need a boat instead of a car to get up your drive!

    1. Yep, I am thinking that if we were out there full time, we might be flooded in for a day or so.

  2. You need some rubber ducks to float around too!

    1. LOL, I suppose when life gives you ponds, make rubber ducks, right? Ha. Too funny! If I could find some bulk rubber ducks, I might be so inclined. Gotta smile, right?

  3. Rain is good. Good idea about the holes but you have to get there first. Have a great weekend.

    1. Rain is good, but more in moderation, ha. Weekend ended up beautiful, weather wise, but the yard was super saturated. Not much I could do outside.

    1. Hope you had a good one. I was too tired to post an update today/tonight. Plus it was NASCAR day and the big Houston Texans game tonight (ugh). But it was a pretty weekend but just waaaay too wet to get much done out there. Sigh.

    1. Ha, 2nd Family actually have two ducks. I'll have to ask how they liked all the water, ha.

  6. Hope the rain lets up for several days, it will still be too muddy to dig holes, but a good time to go check for leaks and drainage problems. Got pontoons or at least a life jacket for little red car?????

    1. Yep, too muddy. I learned that the hard way. And we DID check for leaks, and I think I found one! Drainage was pretty good, no standing water around the house, so that was good. Ha, the little red car made it, but it wouldn't have THAT day of the rain, ha. Hmm, I wonder if my seat cushion could be used as a floatation device? LOL!

  7. Thankfully, the rain was a non-event as it came though my part of AL. That's a lot of water you have got. I find that weeds are easily pulled after a good rain. Plus, digging anything up to move or get rid of is much easier. Plus, I can stop any erosion that is occurring. I make little stick dams, just enough to slow and/or divert water.

    1. That's good. I did try to do some weeding but it was just mucky and I got frustrated, ha. I DID however pull up a few bushes that I didn't want. Good idea about the erosion. I'll have to check that out next time.

    1. Actually, four weekends. Though I wasn't technically rained out this weekend, weather ended up being beautiful, but the ground was too wet to do much. But still got some projects done, that's the important thing. Now, no heavy rains for a week or two. :-)
