FLOOD RINSE REPEAT

No farm visit today.  Went to bed about midnight but notice the time on this radar capture...yep 2:52AM.  It was when all the weather alerts started coming in fast and furious...

We have had some huge storms overnight, including tornadoes in the area...

And more rain again...here are the Harris County rainfall totals since last night when the rain started...we are at about 6" here in town.  We haven't heard from 2nd Family yet to see the rainfall totals at the farm (side note, we need to get some sort of WiFi connected weather station at the farm so we can monitor conditions remotely).

One thing that's pretty cool about Houston is that it has become a very connected and information sharing city.  In addition to the real time rainfall totals across the city, and real time bayou/stream bank levels, our electrical grid is also connected to show outages.  Above is a real time outage map.  Yellow triangles are 1-10 homes without power, orange 11-100, light red 101-300, and dark red 301+.  If they overlap, well of course that's just upwards of thousands in one area.  Thankfully, we have power here in town but the rain is insane...

...it's enough to turn someone into Grumpy Cat!

Hope your Halloween is going better!

  1. Every time I see a clip of the weather status from Texas I think of the two of you and hope you are all right. Keep dry. This too shall pass.

    1. And it's been some crazy clips I bet! Thanks for thinking of us. Our house in town is well away from flooding danger but we have been flooded in, no easy way to access the freeways until the water recedes. I worry about tornadoes and wind damage. Seems we had possibly seven touchdowns (kinda far from here but close enough to make me nervous).

      Thank you!!

  2. Wow, you all (and most of Texas for that matter) have really had the rain this year huh? Drought a few years ago to too much this year. Crazy.

    1. We received 4 inches here; according to our rain gauge anyway but more rain in the forecast come Wed. and through the weekend.
Time change tonight so don't forget to fall back 1 hour

    2. Yeps, been crazy this year, no other way to describe it. And yes, 2011/2012 we had almost 12 months of no measurable rainfall.

    3. I was wondering how y'all were faring Colleen, glad it wasn't any worse. The forecast here shows rain later in the week too.

YES! Time change, I almost did forget!!

  3. Wow, y'all got hit last night! I got about 1.75 inches but other areas around here got over 4 inches. The poor Hill Country really got flooded. Hopefully the weather will get more moderated.
    Try to stay dry!
    Love that grumpy cat! :)

    1. Yep, inside the loop it was crazy rain....I hope that it does calm down. SO glad I got the raised beds cleaned out, though I'm afraid the weeds might make a comeback with this wet weather.

Thinking of those in the Hill Country...they got it bad too.

That stuffed Grumpy Cat was brought to work by a coworker and I got to have it sitting on my desk for a day.

    1. We're good and the water is receding. Parts of town were really badly impacted, some tornadoes, lots of homes flooded and cars flooded in all the hight water spots in town. Thanks for popping in to check!!

  5. I went camping this weekend. It poured Friday night, I woke up to a lake in my tent. Then it cleared up. We had fun most of Saturday; didn't rain during the day but as soon as it got dark it rained some more. Then overnight it rained more. Then today IT WOULDN'T STOP! So we drove home. The sun peaked out as we were leaving, just long enough to stick out it's tongue at us. Dry, but tired.
