Look what we saw at the farm...
(as always you can click to enlarge)
Hawk |
This beautiful hawk came to visit us, sitting in a tree in the front yard...
It was so fast, I tried to get some good pics...
Hawk taking off |
But it took flight and was gone. I wanted some in flight pictures but I glanced down at the camera to get the zoom feature ready and looked back up and there was nothing but a small dot in the distance.
They are fast, but wow they are beautiful creatures, that's for sure! You would not want to be on the other end of those talons.
Hope you are having a good weekend. It's raining today, ugh, but at least we got some things accomplished at the farm yesterday. We made the most of the time there.
More on that tomorrow!
Such a beautiful bird indeed, especially in flight.
ReplyDeleteSomeone around close to where I live has a Sanctuary for the red tailed hawks, so it is quite a site when I see several flying around over head at one time.
The most I have counted at one time was 13 flying around here.
Thanks 4 sharing the great photos.
Thanks, they are truly majestic birds that's for sure. Would love to see a bunch at one time. Must be an impressive sight!
DeleteLooks like a Red Tailed hawk. As you guys know I fee bird all the time and have tons of variety, but recently a red tailed came to visit, landed in the tree but not 6 feet from the windows of the kitchen. I sensed it's presence and turned to see it. It was amazing....even though all the little birds booked. They will eat other small birds and rodents. Maybe he's after field mice there?
ReplyDeleteHey you! Missed ya! I bet seeing one that close was amazing. And they look at us like "I'm not scared of you" ha. Hey he can eat ALL the field mice he wants. Keeps them out of the house.
DeleteThose are great cell phone shots!
ReplyDeleteThanks!! I wished I had my regular camera at the time but it caught me off guard, ha.
Deletegood thing you don't have chickens!
ReplyDeleteI know, right!?! Now 2nd Family does but they have dogs too that I think deter the flying predators (and 4 legged ones like coyotes).
DeleteNice shots of the bird! I love watching the hawks around here too. They have a certain majesty about them,
ReplyDeleteMajesty is a great description huh?
DeleteMajestic? Absolutely! But, you will always look at hawks differently once you have chickens.
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, I bet. Then they are like the snakes and other things huh?
DeleteBeautiful. I have several Hawks that visit me from time to time. They hunt for rabbits and Horned Toads that live on my property. The Hawk is very special to me being part Native American. I have many stories about them in my life. These are awesome pics.
ReplyDeleteI love that!!! Thank you so much for sharing that.
DeleteIt's a gorgeous bird! It doesn't look like a red tailed hawk to me, but I'm no bird expert. I did, however, do a search and found a bird that looks like this one. The one I found is a red-shouldered hawk. It even has the yellow at the top of its beak. Here's a link to the page I found: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Red-shouldered_Hawk/id
ReplyDeleteI thought it might be red tailed too but was't sure. I figured I was safe in just saying "hawk", LOL! That's for the link, I"j going to read all about it and bookmark that.
DeleteWow. Lucky you. The raptors are beautiful birds.
ReplyDeleteIt's the first time out there we've seen one so close. They are beautiful for sure.
