It was a nice weekend of rest. Having a three day weekend is always welcome, especially after a long hot Summer. We ran some errands but mainly just relaxed and enjoyed the time off.
Hot and dry |
It was another hot and dry weekend outside though. Here is the photo from roughly the same angle I've been taking each time at the farm. The green is hanging on, ha.
We had a glimmer of hope. This was the radar the other day. It was POURING in Houston. There was brief flooding, hail, wind, lightning, and about 2" or 3" of rain. This is the radar image from when it was happening. The storm literally only encompassed the main part of Houston proper, there was NO rain anywhere else. Crazy how that can happen.
Drought cracks in the ground |
The cracks in the ground are getting wider. This is about an inch wide. It runs for about four feet.
I watered the fruit trees and plants on the porch and then left. Really there is not much else to do out there. With only one window unit a/c in the house it's just too hot to deal with trying to cool down the house. Yet another reason we're working diligently to remedy that situation. Hope to have an update soon on that front.
Bay leaves drying |
2nd Man was getting low on on bay leaves so I snipped a couple dozen and brought them back into town to dry in the window ledge for a few days...
Home grown bay leaves |
Then I put them in a bottle and up in the cabinet for him to use. He was happy.
Hobart the cat |
Hobart was his usual self all weekend. Sleeping wherever he found the most comfortable spot. Of course, in retrospect, we kind of did the same thing...
Hope you all had a good weekend.
hobart has the right idea! we have one more warm day and then fall weather for a week. i can't wait!
ReplyDeleteLucky!!! Please post about how wonderful it feels, ha.
DeleteThe nice lady who lives across the street from me only has a window unit in her bedroom. Her house is unbearably hot. She knows she's welcome in my home but she seems to prefer staying in the heat.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
We had two, one in each bedroom and they cooled the house OK. Really, in our heat, we need central ac and heat for winter if we ever hope to live there full time or even just visit in the summer and be cool. We just don't want to buy another one or two when we know that we'll be replacing the house sooner rather than later.
DeleteI saw a great meme today about the heat . It said " Yes I know fall is near but it's 98 degrees in the shade so keep your damn pumpkin spice away from my margarita"
ReplyDeleteI love that! Makes sense to me!!! We're definitely still in margarita territory.
DeleteThe bay leaves look great! That drought crack is worrisome to me...we aren't missing any moisture here that's for sure...glad you had a nice weekend, Hobart knows how to live! :)
ReplyDeleteAnother week of Hot and Dry – ugh :( Heat that will shatter a 1909 record, according to weather forecasts.
ReplyDeleteDid you see the facebook post by ABC13-Travis Herzog meteorologist last night? “Here's my public apology and exit after delivery the sizzling hot forecast. Bye.”
I took a long nap on Labor Day.
ReplyDeleteMaybe this will help make everyone just a bit cooler. :}
ReplyDeleteFrosty the Snowman
Frosty the Snowman, was a jolly happy soul,
With a corn cob pipe and a button nose, and two eyes made of coal.
Frosty the Snowman, is a fairytale, they say.
He was made of snow, but the children know he came to life one day.
There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found,
For when they placed it on his head, he began to dance around!
Oh, Frosty, the Snowman, was alive as he could be;
and the children say he could laugh and play,
just the same as you and me.
Thumpety thump, thump, thumpety thump, thump,
look at Frosty go.
Thumpety thump, thump, thumpety thump, thump,
over the hills of snow.
Frosty the Snowman, knew the sun was hot that day,
so he said, "Let's run, and we'll have some fun now, before I melt away."
Down to the village, with a broomstick in his hand,
Running here and there, all around the square,
sayin', "Catch me if you can."
He led them down the streets of town, right to the traffic cop;
and only paused a moment, when he heard him holler, "Stop!"
For Frosty, the Snowman, had to hurry on his way,
But he waved goodbye, sayin' "Don't cry, I'll be back again some day."
To help get cool; wear a cool tie. OR
ReplyDeletetrain a hummingbird for him to flap it's wings close to your face. :}(your very own 'bird fan.')
